In a move that many feel is long overdue, the state will spend $45 million to alleviate traffic problems where I-485 merges onto I-85 South.
NC Speaker Tim Moore said in his proposal that the “most problematic of any interstate to interstate interchange in the State of North Carolina.”
“Right now you have 485 South coming in with all those lanes in the one. You have 485 North coming in. All that traffic gets funneled into one lane and I’ve described it before as a goat rodeo! That’s the best way I know. It just all gets put in there cause everything to freeze up,” Moore explained.
Construction is expected to start in 2025
