U.S News, in conjunction with global nonprofit social science research firm RTI International, evaluates high schools across six measures. College readiness is assigned the highest weight of 30%, followed by state assessment proficiency, 20%; state assessment performance, 20%; college curriculum breadth, 10%; underserved student performance, 10%; and graduation rate, 10%.
Gaston County’s first magnet high school and a 2017 National Blue Ribbon School award winner, Highland is a world-class school that prepares students for a world-class future. Students complete courses in one of three academies: Health Sciences; Business, Legal, and Information Sciences; and Manufacturing/Engineering Technology and Graphics.
