4 Restaurants to check out in nearby Cleveland County

1. 238 Cherokee Grill, 222 South Railroad Avenue, Kings Mountain.

A favorite any time we are in Kings Mountain. Relaxed atmosphere, daily specials, varied menu with something for everyone. Sandwiches, salads, entrees from $8-$28.

2. Red Bridges Barbecue Lodge  2000 East Dixon Blvd., Shelby.

Since 1946, Reg Bridges has made some of the best pork bbq anywhere- voted #1  Readers Choice by USA Today in 2019. They still slow cook their pork over hickory wood all night long- and it shows. The hush puppies are sinfully good- worth every calorie! They have a small menu of other items, but I have never ordered anything but the bbq- which you can get sliced or shopped. They are a local institution- if you have never been and love bbq, you owe it to yourself to  make the trip!

3. Chen’s Chinese Restaurant  209 West Dixon Blvd., Shelby.

Owned by long time restaurateurs Michael and Pasty Cheng, this the the areas best Chinese lunch buffet. This is not one of those buffets with 4000 items, and none good or fresh, but a very small buffet where everything is fresh, tasty  and high quality. There is a reason they have been there so long- quality and taste.

4. The Honey Hog Restaurant  4629 Fallston Road, Lawndale, NC.

Co-owners Johnny Ray and Tyler Jones, aka The Pitmaster and The Farmer, are doing something right just outside of Fallston. They raise or grow or locally source almost everything they serve. They do breakfast (but don’t open until 11:00) salads, burgers, wings, pork bbq, ribs, smoked brisket and more. The cheese curds are a big favorite- be sure to try them!
