NC Reopening Phase 2 tentatively set to begin this Saturday, May 23rd
 

Phase 2 of Reopening North Carolina

Phase 2 could begin as soon as May 23.

The following changes are planned to be made in Phase 2:

  • Lift the stay-at-home order with a strong encouragement for vulnerable populations to continue staying at home.
  • It will allow the limited opening of restaurants, bars and other businesses. They will follow strict safety protocols such as reduced capacity and social distancing.
  • Allowing gatherings at houses of worship and entertainment venues at reduced capacities.
  • Allow an increase in number of people allowed at gatherings
  • Open public playgrounds
  • Continue restrictions on nursing homes and congregate-living settings

Judge lifts restriction on indoor worship

As of Saturday, indoor worship is allowed indoors, lifting Governor Cooper's executive order 138, which mandated that any religious gathering of over 10 people had to take place outside. The South Gastonia Church of God held services at 10 am and 6 pm on Sunday, with safety protocols in place.
Local wedding business losing it's shirt during shutdown

Byron Sackett of Homestead Events is frustrated. Sackett says they have lost out on three normally busy month's of business, and some brides are starting to book in neighboring South Carolina because of the uncertainty. Sackett is also frustrated that the event business is not mentioned in phase 1,2, or three of the governor's plan. More...

The Gastonia Police Department has it's first Latina woman police captain. Sergeant Nancy Brogdon was promoted to captain recently, according to Police Chief Robert Helton. Congratulations Captain Brogdon!
High school graduation goes on, sort of...

Superintendent  Jeff Booker say there will be no traditional graduation ceremonies next month. Instead, graduates will walk across the stage in 10 minute increments, and a virtual ceremony, including speeches by faculty and students, will be live streamed on June 13th, the original graduation day.
Unfortunately, Coivd-19 cases are up again this week. Gaston County currently has 30 active positive cases of Coronavirus (up from 28 last week), with 180 recovered, and 6 deaths.You can get daily info at Gastongov.com/coronavirus

The Gaston County Animal Care and Enforcement  opened their new facility yesterday,  May 18, 2020. The new Animal Care and Enforcement Shelter is located at 1491 Business Park Court in Gastonia NC. As of  May 15, 2020, the previous location in Dallas Park is closed.

The shelter is requesting that all citizens contact Animal Care and Enforcement at 704.922.8677 prior to coming to the shelter to prevent any inconvenience to the citizens.
