Caromont Health Plans 66 Bed Hospital on Belmont Abbey CampusCaromont Health has signed a lease with Southern Benedictine Society to build a new hospital on the Belmont Abbey campus, between Exits 26 and 27 facing I85. They are expected to break ground in April of 20201, and be complete by summer 2023.

Authentic won the Kentucky Derby yesterday, beating favorite Tis The Law. Because of the virus, the normal crowd of 150,000 was missing. No big hats, no celebrities, no mint juleps. Tis The Law came up a length and a half short, ending his Triple Crown chances. In a day of controversy, the Twin Spires grounds were circled by hundreds of people protesting the death of Breona Taylor, a young woman whose death has become the focus of the Black Lives Matter movement.

You can finally head back to the gym, if you want. Phase 2.5 started at 5 p.m. yesterday and it allows gyms to open at 30 percent capacity; outside gatherings can have up to 25 people indoors and 50 people outdoors; playground, museums, and bowling alleys can open. Bars must remain closed

NC State Trooper Jerome John Letcavage has been charged with stealing $5000 worth of gym equipment from the Warlick YMCA. Letcavage is a 22 year veteran of the NC Highway Patrol.

Confederate Monument The Gaston County Board of Commissioners voted to keep the statue where it is-in front of the courthouse- after the Sons of Confederate Veterans declined to accept the statue for fear of legal action. According to WBTV new the commissioners will revisit the issue"in a few months"

 Gastonia  police are asking for the public’s help solving a missing persons case from 2015.

Rose Maria Patterson, 43, was reported missing on Sept. 2, 2015. Her son had not been able to get in touch with her for a month.She is 5′2″ tall and weighs 139 lbs.

Officials say Patterson was known to be in the area of 321 South in Gastonia, particularly near Clyde Street and Johns Lane. She also had associates throughout Gastonia as well as Dallas and Matthews. Relatives say she does not have a stable home.

Anyone who has seen Patterson or has information on her whereabouts is urged to call Detective C. Mastro at 704-854-6651, or text or call tips to Crime Stoppers of Gaston County at 704-861-8000.

Crime Stoppers pays up to $1,000 for information that helps to resolve a case.

Our numbers increased last week, after falling for two consecutive weeks. Gaston County has had 4247 positive cases. We currently have 1250 active cases, with 2931 recovered, and 2 more deaths for a total of 66. Please wear your mask and social distance!
