 Today it will be partly sunny with a  thunderstorm in spots in the afternoon, and a high of 88.

Yesterday was "Back to School"- whatever that looks like this year!. If you are on Facebook, you saw lots of kids having their pictures made, often with siblings. Here's wishing all of the students, parents, and teachers a happy and rewarding year,no matter if you are at home, at school, or both!

Or pal and local muralist Boyce McKinney was interviewed by Spectrum News Charlotte last week. They were  working on a special story about Mount Holly Community Garden and their new mural project.  McKinney recently painted the mural, which was designed by Terry Rhyne last year, on a brick storage building at the entrance to the garden. Local favorite Harold Varner lll tied for 7th at the Wyndham championship at Greensboro's Sedgefield County Club on Sunday. It was a good weekend for the Forestview alum, and he is looking forward to the FedEx Playoffs.

The Democratic Party convened their convention last night, sort of. Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez was present in Milwaukee, but Joe Biden and Kamala Harris weren't. Neither were the 57 state, territorial and international delegations that would normally have filled a Milwaukee arena. Instead there was  2 hours of television, much of it prerecorded.

Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden will reopen Saturday after being closed almost 5 months due to Covid-19.The garden will be open from 10a.m. to 4 p.m. and timed tickets are required.“Now that we see we can operate safely and responsibly, it’s time to admit more people,” said Interim Executive Director Jim Hoffman. “We’ve implemented various protocols to help mitigate the spread of Covid-19. It’s become a new normal for us and our members, so we’re confident we can welcome more people to enjoy the benefits of being in nature and in a garden.” Members and visitors can reserve a ticket here to be sure of admission.

U.N.C. Chapel Hill became the first major university to move classes completely online, after 177 students tested positive for Covid-19.  Hundreds of others were in quarantine because of possible exposure.U.N.C. officials have identified four clusters of infection is student housing.

Been thinking of going to medical school? Here's a first look at the proposed Atrium Health, Wake Forest School of Medicine in Charlotte. Atrium Health CEO Gene Woods said the four-year school will at first support about 1,600 faculty members and some 3,200 students across more than 100 specialized programs. The school is expected to generate $2.5 billion in economic impact in the Charlotte Metro area, and support 20,000 high-paying jobs.

 6 People Have Died of Covid-19  Since Last Tuesday

6 people have died of Covid-19 in Gaston County since last Tuesday. To date, we have had 3,579 positive tests, and currently have 1256 active cases, 2265 recovered, and 58 deaths. Check out Gaston County's new dashboard here. A vaccine can't get here soon enough.
