Confederate Monument

The Gaston County Freedom Fighters continue to protest the Confederate monument in front of the Gaston County Courthouse.
County commissioners had voted to give the statue to the Sons of Confederate Veterans, who later declined to accept citing legal concerns.

Later the commissioners voted 4-3 to rescind the resolution, and voted to keep the statue where it is.Commissioners Hovis and Worley presented an alternate proposal that would have rescinded giving the statue to the SCV, but would have continued to seek a non-profit to give the statue to. The proposal was voted down 4-3.

Are you an entrepreneur looking for funding?

Charlotte based WIMS Consulting, founded by Mike Simmons, wants to help you get started via crowdfunding. "A good candidate for this type of fundraising would be a company with a loyal fan base that has a local presence, especially if they are doing something specific that a community can rally around," he said. "To be able to get your community to participate in something like that with companies they know and love is incredible... It's significantly more personal" , says Simmons.
