Today will be very warm with intervals of clouds and sun; caution advised if doing strenuous activities outside. The high will be 90.  A thunderstorm around in the evening; clouds breaking, humid, with a  low of 67.
Recycling meets DoorDash

A small tech company is starting a new recycling program called Recyclops in Shelby and Gastonia. Neither city offers recycling programs at this point.
For a $12 monthly fee , Recyclops gives you bags for your clean recyclables, and you place them on the curb on pickup day. They need at least 100 people to get the program started, and you can sign up here.

Recyclops uses independent drivers like Uber or Doordash. A company spokesman said there is no shortage of drivers willing to make some exrta money in a side hustle.
Honey Hunters to open season at CaroMont Health Park Thursday

The Honey Hunters will open their season in the newly named CaroMont Health Park on Thursday. The park opens at 5:30, pregame starts at 6:00, and first pitch is at 6:50. Tickets range from $7 to $15. More...
GSM to sponsor Club, fireworks

More Honey Hunters  news...local company GSM has acquired the rights to name the club above home plate at the new Caromont Health Park.  GSM is also sponsoring opening day activities, and postgame fireworks. Opening day is this Thursday, May 27.
Next Monday is Memorial Day Memorial Day, which falls on the last Monday in May, honors the men and women who died while serving in the military.

 Town Burger in Eastridge Mall has closed.

Twin Tops is still offering takeout, while they remodel and bring everything up to code. Looks like it may be the first of the year before the dining room is open again.

Will's Doggin' It Deli has $2 Tony's ice cream scoops all this week.

So this is the buzz...they are building a Bojangles next to Catawba Heights Animal Hospital in Mt. Holly, a Taco Bell near Broomers and McDonalds, and a Waffle House near the Caromont hospital-also in Mt. Holly.

Looks like an Irish Pub is opening in Belmont where Doffer's Pizza was...

Coca-Cola sign makes a comeback in Mt. Holly

Mt. Holly will once again have a Coca-Cola sign!

Due to damage to the wall and a water leak, the original sign could not be saved, but our friend Boyce McKinney is going to recreate the original Coca-Cola sign. So exciting-can't wait! This is on the building occupied by  Nails by Helly and formerly by Rhyne Grocery.

 4 Gaston County people have died of Covid since last Tuesday

4 families have lost loved ones since last Tuesday to Covid. So far Gaston County has lost 439 people to the virus. Right now we have 0 people on a vent, 19 people hospitalized, and have had 26,720 total cases.

The largest number of cases are in the 25-49 age range.


At least 998,176 people in North Carolina have tested positive for the coronavirus and 12,987 have died since March 2020, according to state health officials.

Cherokees appeal Kings Mountain ruling

Well of course they did. In this ongoing skirmish between the Catawba Indians and the Cherokees, the Cherokees have appealed a court's  decision that approved the building of a casino in Kings Mountain. The Cherokee Nation also named the U.S. Department of Interior as a defendant in their notice of appeal filed in the U.S. Court of Appeals in Washington.

The Cherokees own the only two licensed casinos in the state, and understandably, they don't want the competition.
Watson Insurance 9th largest Charlotte Metro Independent Insurance Broker

In a recent Charlotte business Journal listing, Watson Insurance was ranked 9th in a listing of the largest independent insurance brokers in the Charlotte Metro region. Watson placed $50 million in premium volume in 2020.
