Good morning, it's David. Today is Tuesday, May 11th.
There were plenty of flowers in bloom for the sold out Mother's Day event at Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden. Hope you had a great Mother's Day!
Today it will be cooler with variable clouds, and a high of 69. Tonight there will be considerable clouds with periods of rain late, with a low of 51.
I love old signs! This photo was taken byDarius Czekaj. This sign is on the left as you go over the bridge from Mount Holly into Mecklenburg County on Hwy. 27, just past the little barber shop. Evidently the business was run by Roy Cox and a Mr. Johnson. A lot of local people have fond memories of buying their first cars there, and remember what nice men they were.
Winning feels pretty great- ask Rory McIlroy
Rory McIlroy overcame gusty winds and a strained neck to win the Wells Fargo Championship in Charlotte on Sunday. On the way to the win, McIlroy didn't hit many fairways, but his putting was on point. Oh, he also took home about $1.5 mil for his efforts.
Gastonia's hot real estate market
According to a recent market analysis by real estate startup Opendoor, the 28056 zip code in Gastonia is one of the 10 hottest markets in the Charlotte metro region.
Jon Enberg, Opendoor’s Charlotte general manager, says of the local housing market:
We’re continuing to see lots of young families move to North Carolina. Charlotte specifically is seeing more demand than even Raleigh-Durham and at a higher price point, up to $450K, particularly in surrounding suburbs where their dollar goes farther. We see this in south Charlotte, near the state line and towards Lake Norman to the north. Neighborhoods like Matthews and Mint Hill, which are southeast and east of Charlotte, are seeing demand from buyers looking for more space due to COVID-19, and families new to the Charlotte area.
This beautiful house in Cramer Mountain just sold for $976,000

Dominion Energy looking at blending hydrogen with natural gas in Gastonia
Dominion Energy North Carolina is asking the state for $215,000 as part of a rate hike request. The purpose of the request is for a proposed project to combine 5% hydrogen gas with natural gas. The benefit of burning hydrogen as a fuel is that system can be designed so that it recycles carbon dioxide to produce just two by-products — a pipeline-quality synthetic natural gas and water.
Several doctors formerly with South Point Family Practice, Gaston Medical Partners, Tryon Medical Partners, and Gastonia based Caromont have reached an agreement.
The lawsuit was filed in September 2019 as the doctors sought to join the Tryon Medical Group. The parties involved said they "are pleased by this outcome and remain committed to the care and service of patients in our community." Neither Tryon Medical or Caromont had any further comment.
