Cuban restaurant in Gastonia?

There is a rumor that there is a Cuban restaurant moving into the old Miles Cafeteria space in downtown Gastonia. We can only hope!
Doffer's Pizza in Belmont closing

Doffer's Pizza will close their doors on March 7th. They are saying they were unable to renew their lease. The buzz is that there in an Irish pub going in that space.

NC Senate declines to overturn Gov Cooper's veto requiring an in-person schooling option

The NC Senate did not have them majority needed to override Governor Cooper's veto, meaning that schools do not have to offer in-person learning.
Most schools are already have in-person classes in some form, but Senate Bill 37 have required them to offer the option if they didn’t.
Because the override failed, it won’t go to the House, ending the life of the bill.

Gastonia gets shout out on SNL


LaVar Ball (Kenan Thompson) stopped by the Weekend Update desk to talk about his sons- including Charlotte Hornet and probable Rookie of the year LaMelo Ball. He also talked about combining both Carolinas into one Super Carolina- Carolossus!

Gaston county homes a bargain?

In 2020, Gaston County homes sold for an average of $242,697. That's over $100,000 cheaper than homes in Mecklenburg, Union, Iredell, and Lincoln counties.

Popping up at DSBG-the Crocus

Find me throughout the Garden. Look down, I'm usually very small, and just poking out of the ground. For such a tiny little plant, the crocus pushes through mulch and thick ground cover. Several times we have thought we have buried our crocus' too deep, but they have shown up anyway. It can also survive a range of temperatures, so it's perfect for this area, and the forgetful gardener.
 
Garth Brooks concert rescheduled....again.

The Garth Brooks concert scheduled for the Bank of America stadium has been rescheduled again-due to Covid19- for September 25th. Current ticket holders need to hold onto their tickets.
600,000 Square foot building planned for Delta Industrial Park In Gastonia

Charlotte-based Trinity Capital Advisors is proceeding with developing Delta Industrial Park on Delta Drive in Gastonia. The project's first stage call for  a 600,000-square-foot industrial building that can be expanded up to 1 million square feet. There is not yet a firm timeline on when the project will be completed, said Massie Flippin, partner at Trinity Capital.

Charlotte Mecklenburg  Covid test numbers for new infections dropped to 5.6% last week, while Gaston County still hovers around 10%

 
Red Cross blood drives at Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden

The Red Cross is holding two blood drives at the Garden March 9 and March 30th, from 11am-3pm.


Blood drives have always been an important way to help the community, but they are especially important now during the pandemic. According to the Red Cross, someone in the United States needs blood every two seconds. Blood donations help people undergoing surgery, burn victims, heart surgery and organ transplant patients, cancer patients and many more.

The Garden will be closed on these dates and will only be open to blood drive participants. Please note, due to COVID-19 safety restrictions, no children, family members or guests will be allowed to enter the Garden or the blood drive.   


 

Arts on the Greenway has a new kiln!

Arts on the Greenway in Mount Holly is a step closer to offering hot arts- ceramics and jewelry. AOTG has purchased a kiln and several molds for their new hot arts area.

New Regional Wastewater Plant coming soon

A new wastewater  treatment plant will be built to replace two aging facilities in Mount Holly and Belmont. The new facility will be called the Stowe Regional Water Resource Recovery Facility. The facility will process 15 million gallons of wastewater a day in the new state-of-the art plant. It will also reduce the permitted discharges into the river. More...

Numbers are still too high

We have had 23,744 positive Gaston County Covid19 tests to date, and 396 people have died due to the virus. Currently 29 people are hospitalized, and 1 person is on a ventilator. The largest group affected is ages 25-49. See interactive graphic here...
Do you recognize this car or this man?

On Feb. 24th at around 3:00 a.m. a subject cut off and stole the catalytic converter from the City Church (Formerly Bethlehem Church) church van. Images of the suspect and suspect vehicle were captured on surveillance video. The suspect vehicle is believed to possibly be a 2001-2005 Nissan Pathfinder or Infiniti QX4 model years 1997-2003. The color in the images of the suspect vehicle is distorted due to a camera issue. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective A.C. Edge at 704-869-7871.

Meet Ella-your new best friend!
Meet Ella, she is a 3 year pld full blooded Doberman. Ella is house trained and good with big dogs, she tends to be rough with small dogs. Ella is skittish at first around new people but warms up and becomes the sweetest girl. She is good with kids. Ella is stubborn on a leash, needs someone to work on training her. She is spayed, microchipped and up to date on vaccines.
