Your gas bill going up 11.9%?

Piedmont Natural Gas Co. Inc. is asking North Carolina regulators to allow them to raise rates by 11.9% on residences and small commercial accounts. The average residential bill would increase from $68 to $76, or about $8.

Unfortunately it looks like LaMelo Ball is out for the rest of the season with a broken wrist,  suffered in the game against the LA Clippers this Saturday.

Do lawmakers stand to benefit from proposed KM casino?

A group of NC legislators have called for an investigation into lawmakers that have voted for the casino, or that  may own land  whose value would benefit from the project.
In a letter to State Attorney General Josh Stein, 14 Democratic Hose members asked questions. The letter cites “a nearly untraceable network of LLCs” that own land surrounding the casino property and calls out Kings Mountain Mayor Scott Neisler for his family’s extensive nearby landholdings.

Also in question was former longtime Cleveland County commissioner Eddie Holbrook's partial ownership of E5 Holdings, which owns 22 acres near the proposed casino. However, Holbrook lost his reelection bid in 2018, and E5 Holdings was not formed until 2020;

Crazed raccoon attacked near High Shoals Buddhist Retreat

A rabies crazed raccoon was attacked by a dog last week near Bamboo Forest Zen Retreat, a Buddhist meditation center,  just west of High Shoals in Gaston County. The dog has a current rabies vaccination, and got a booster shot. It is not clear if the dog killed the raccoon, or if the racoon was euthanized to be sent to the State rabies lab for testing.
It is unconfirmed at this time whether or not local Presbyterians had sent the crazed raccoon to harass Buddhist retreat attendees.

Belmont to lose park to development?

As it turns out, Belmont doesn't own the popular Dwight Frady Field or Crescent Park- the land actually belongs to Belmont Land & Development.  Belmont Land met recently with the City of Belmont to discuss developing the land the park is on, as well as property that they own across the street. Belmont Land is owned by Pharr in McAdenville.
The city has approached Pharr about purchasing the land in the past, but were rebuffed.

Oops! Finish Line Christian Center may have to tear down new facade

Finish Line Christian Center in downtown Mount Holly recently replaced their front facade with North Carolina stone. Unfortunately, they did not file for a permit from the City of Mount Holly first, and natural stone is not an approved material for a downtown footprint. Finish Line applied for a permit (after the fact) and was denied. They City is saying they can appeal or remove the facade. (per Donnie Beard on FB)
