Tropical Storm Elsa was downgraded from a hurricane to a tropical storm over the weekend. Storm winds are expected to reach Southeastern North Carolina by 8 PM Wednesday.

Olde Mecklenburg Brewery plans $4.3 mil brewery in Mount Holly
Olde Mecklenburg Brewery is planning to build a brewery, warehouse and restaurant at 725 Elm Street in Mount Holly. The site is the former Mount Holly water treatment site, near Dutchman's Creek and the Catawba River. Some elements of the original structures will be retained, with wood, glass and stone elements giving the property it's German feel.
A hearing is scheduled for July 12. A vote for approval is .possible that same day

The South Fork Brew Project has joined the ranks of locally brewed beer purveyors. Charles Edling, owner of District 8 Beer Co. in Cramerton, has opened South Fork Brew Project next door to District 8 in Southfork Village.
Edling says he hadn't always planned to open a brewery, but when the boutique next door moved, he acted quickly to score the space. Edling plans several beers and hard seltzers, and will continue to offer local bottled and canned beers in the market inside the bar.
Congrats to Webb Custom Kitchen being listed in Yelp's 25 best steakhouses in America. They commented on the 40 oz Certified Angus Beef charbroiled porterhouse, but also their center cut filet mignon, and a hand cut aged ribeye.
Catawba Two Kings Casino opens in Kings Mountain
Long lines waited last Thursday morning for the doors to open at the new Kings Mountain Casino. There were speeches by King Mountain Mayor Scott Neisler, as well as Catawba Indian Chief Bill Harris.
The casino, located at 538 Kings Mountain Boulevard, will eventually have a hotel, restaurants, table games, and slot machines. The casino is open 24/7. Info

Mic's Mini Market opened yesterday- why that's a big deal
Mic's Mini Market had a grand opening yesterday, in the location of a former market that had closed in March 2020-just as the pandemic hit. The market sits on the edge of what is called a food desert, meaning that it is near a low income and low access to fresh food area. The nearest discount grocery is a mile away, Food Lion is two miles away.

We are hearing that Milanos Italian restaurant has closed for a bit. Evidently the owners normally go to Greece for the summer, but due to staffing issues they have temporarily closed. According to their answering machine they will reopen August 19th.

Gaston County Animal Care and Enforcement is considering dropping their adoption fees for dogs from $90 to $17 for the week of the 4th. Cat adoptions are usually $75, will also be $17.

Meet Max
Max is an amazing Beagle guy around 8 years old looking for his perfect family. Max is such a sweet little guy that just likes to meander around, he loves to cuddle and gets along with everyone. Max has a few medical issues but none that currently require any medication or special care. He has had a dental and several teeth extracted. At his latest vet visit his blood-work indicates that he might have Cushings disease, so he does need to be monitored so that he doesn't eat things he should not.
