US Treasury  & Taxpayers lose approximately $2.5 million on Alliance Bank

Gastonia based AB&T Corp. ( owners of Alliance Bank ) shares were bought by the Treasury  during the Great Recession to the tune of $3.5 million. They recently sold those shares in two lots at an approximate 72% discount, recouping about $1 million.
The good news-for shareholders at least-is that there was a market for the shares, even at a reduced price, which signals that there is some confidence in the firm's financial future. Says Chris Marinac, a bank analyst with FIG Partners " "Someone believes in the residual value of the company," he says. "They're thinking it's not going to fail. So take a flyer."
