Hello Tuesday, it's David. Today is December 21st. Above is a shot I took on a ride through McAdenville this week. Just about everyone likes Christmas lights, but opinions are divded on color. A Charlotte Axios survey showed that (in Charlotte anyway) twice as many people like white lights as colored, and almost 90% don't like inflatable decorations. Holiday beauty is in the eye of the beholder...
Weather wise, today will be mostly cloudy, with a high of 48. We will have occasional rain this evening, otherwise mostly cloudy, with a low of 30.

Mount Holly Community Garden event a great success!
The Mount Holly Community Garden wants to thank everyone who came out this past weekend to enjoy our 6th Annual Christmas Enchantment in the Garden. Even with a little bit of rain, we had an amazing crowd enjoying the decorations, lights and merriment. We couldn’t do it without our hard working garden members, local artists and volunteers. Already looking forward to next year.

Triva answer from Facebook and Instagram
On Saturdays we post a Gaston county related trivia question on Facebook and Instagram.
The question was: Who was the architect who designed the Gastonia High School (now Ashley Arms Apartments), the Gastonia Post Office, the Stowe house in Belmont, the Cramerton Gymnasium, and many more local buildings of note.
The answer: Hugh Edward White 1869-1939. White, a South Carolina-born architect, worked in various locations before moving about 1920 to the growing textile city of Gastonia, North Carolina. White had nearly 300 documented projects in Gastonia and other North Carolina and South Carolina towns. More...

Bessemer City hosts Polar Plunge for kids Christmas
About ten years ago, Steve and Sandy Jenkins were fooling around in their pool and came up with their Polar Plunge idea.
This year about half a dozen participants braved the cold temps and took the plunge. They paid a modest fee, but also took pledges and challenges. Local businesses also contributed, and $6000 was raised for local kids to go to Walmart and buy presents and anything else that they need. Brrrr!
Charlotte Med Schools
As we have reported before, there are not one, but two Charlotte Medical schools planned, so your little genius won't have to go far to become a doctor. Last week a 4.538 acre parcel was purchased near the site of the planned Wake Forest Baptist School of Medicine. The site sold for $38.8 million.
Light rail to Belmont delayed?
2021 Municipal elections in Mecklenburg County were, delayed, so a planned sales tax to fund the light rail never came to a vote. And at this time it isn't clear how the County would get other counties to pay,or help pay, for the project, which will cost an estimated $13.5 billion. Local funding will need to cover 60% of the cost, with Federal funds covering the rest.
At this point the timeline has been pushed back to 2040.

Does your portfolio include baseball cards, comic books?
I used to be stock broker, but I have never invested in baseball cards or comic books. Maybe I should have.
If a decade ago you had put your money in vintage and modern trading cards instead of the stock market, your payoff would be more than twice as big. In fact, in the last ten years, the return on investment grade cards has approximately doubled the S&P 500.
Last week a fellow named Mark Michaelson sold a rare 1939 Superman comic book for $2.6 million in cold hard cash. Michaelson, who paid for college by trading comics, bought the rare comic in 1979.
Evidently it pays to be a kid at heart.
