Belmont's TechWorks receives $20,000
Duke Energy Foundation has awarded $615,000 in grants to 19 workforce development and education programs in North CarolinaGaston Innovation Group in Belmont got $20,000 for its TechWorks Academy.

Gastonia based Dominion Energy placed 16th on a Charlotte Business Journal list of Charlotte Metro's largest employers. Dominion has 300 employees. Duke energy was first with 7700 employees.
Dallas Electrical Contractors placed 16th in a listing of Charlotte Metro's largest electrical contractors. They have 45 employees. Adams Electric in Charlotte is the largest with 280 employees.
Breweries, brewpubs in Mount Holly
With last weeks City Council approval of the Olde Mecklenburg Brewery's purchase of the old water plant, Mount Holly now has three brewery's or brewpubs on tap: Olde Meck, the Firethorne project by Scott Blackwood, and the former South Main Kitchen and Tavern. We asked Scott Blackwood of Firethorrne's how he feels about the competition, and here's what he had to say "I’m super excited! This makes Mount Holly a destination for beer/food and water/outdoor activities. The owners of the locations are all coming to town with a spirit of collaboration and I’m so proud to be a part of this!"
White's restaurant in Belmont to close
Sad news- it looks like Caroll, Mary and family have decided to close White's in North Belmont after 41 years.. They have made the announcement on Facebook, but have not set a closing date yet.
Congrats to our friend and all around nice guy Aaron Samole for being named a partner in the Webb Custom Kitchen! Jim Morrasso and Bruce Shrake are also partners. (That's Aaron on the left)

I know I am! The Panthers open against the Colts August 15th on the NFL Network. Matt Rhule wasn't too pleased with yesterday's practice. Holding, false starts, a fumble, and multiple interceptions did not make the coach happy, but he said there were some bright spots as well.

Lowes and Duke Power to require masks
As Covid numbers begin to turn up sharply again, both Lowe's Home Improvement and Duke Energy are going to require returning office workers to wear asks, even if they are vaccinated. The highly contagious Delta Variant is causing a spike in Covid cases, and the CDC is advising even vaccinated people to wear masks inside.
Gaston County has had 28,100 cases, and 446 deaths.
Mecklenburg County has reached a sad milestone: 1000 Covid deaths
The N.C. Department of Health and Human Services reported 3,268 new Covid-19 cases on Thursday, up from 2,633 on Wednesday, The Charlotte Observer reports.
