Gastonia native Wiley Cash releases new novel
Wiley Cash has released a new novel entitled "Ghosts", and it's his fourth book and his first mystery.
Cash will be at Book-a- Million on September 22nd. The novel will be released September 21st.
Cash attended Ashbrook and Gaston Day, before obtaining a bachelors degree from UNC Asheville, and a masters from UNC Greensboro.

Scarewcrow Hollow coming soon to DSBG
Explore DSBG's Scarecrow Hollow and be amused by the exhibit of original scarecrows created by local businesses, organizations, and families. The best scarecrows will win a prize based on visitor’s choice. Pick up a ballot at the front admissions desk or scan the QR code to cast a vote for your favorite. Vote through October 31st. Winners will be announced on November 5th.

Scarecrow Hollow is coming up at the Garden, and DSBG member families are invited to participate in this year's exhibit by designing a scarecrow. Your scarecrow can be adorable, funny, handsome, up to you. Set scarecrow trends, go traditional or get creative. Anyone interested is asked to submit a proposal. Be sure to visit the Garden while the scarecrows are on display, October 1- 31. Vote for your favorites, the top scarecrows will win prizes!
Local businesses and community organizations are also encouraged to participate.

Garth not coming in September
Garth Brooks has canceled his planned stadium concert in Charlotte and four other cities due to rising COVID cases. The other concert locations being canceled are Cincinnati, Baltimore, Foxborough and Nashville. The concert was originally supposed to take place in May of 2020
NC Judges grant voting rights to felons
As of yesterday, approximately 55,000 people on parole or probation for a felony are able to register and vote. This means that as soon as someone leaves prison they have the right to vote.
The laws challengers said that the non-voting laws for felons were created after the civil war-with one purpose: to keep blacks from voting.
Embers to perform in Stanley
The Embers are set to perform in Stanley at the First Annual Coolin' Out Concerts on Main this Thursday, August 26 at 6 PM, downtown by the clock tower.

The Food and Drug Administration granted full approval to Pfizer-BioNTech's two-dose vaccine Monday for people ages 16 and up, making it the first Covid-19 vaccine to pass this final regulatory hurdle.
"The FDA's approval of this vaccine is a milestone as we continue to battle the Covid-19 pandemic," acting FDA Commissioner Dr. Janet Woodcock said in a statement. "While millions of people have already safely received Covid-19 vaccines, we recognize that for some, the FDA approval of a vaccine may now instill additional confidence to get vaccinated. Today's milestone puts us one step closer to altering the course of this pandemic in the U.S.

Gaston Covid cases surge
983 Gaston county residents tested positive for Covid last week.
Kevin McCarthy, spokesman for Atrium Health said "95% of COVID related hospitalizations and deaths are people who are un-vaccinated".
North Carolina has approximately a 45% fully vaccinated rate.
To mask, or not to mask
Piedmont Charter Schools have reversed their decision to make masks voluntary, and will make masks mandatory until their next board meeting on September 21.
Gaston County School also changed course, and will require masks until September 20, citing an increase in cases and the Delta variant.
