Belmont Middle School Has Grand Opening
The new Belmont Middle School had their grand opening recently. Major features of the new school: contemporary design, modern classrooms, science labs, state-of-the-art library/media center, cafeteria/multipurpose room, large gymnasium complex, courtyard area, athletic fields.
Gaston County Employees Required to Wear Masks Indoors
Because Covid numbers are at the highest levels since February, Gaston County employees are now required to wear masks indoors, whether they are vaccinated or not. “This decision is about protecting our employees and citizens and making sure we can continue to serve the public effectively,” County Manager Dr. Kim Eagle said. “As we have throughout this pandemic, we will rely on our health experts to provide us with the best information so we can make informed decisions.”
Next door in Charlotte-the Charlotte City Council and Mayor Vi Lyles plan to issue a proclamation requiring a mask in all indoor public settings in Charlotte. This would follow similar actions in Boone, Durham, Chapel Hill, Asheville, Greensboro and Raleigh in the last week.
Gaston County School Board to require masks
The Gaston County School Board changed course last night and will require staff and students to wear masks through September 20, regardless of vaccination status.

A&W Coming to Gaston County
Franchisees Ronald and Nadyne Jennings will build A&W's in Gaston County, Kings Mountain, and the Fort Mill S.C. area, according to the company. The restaurants are expected to open in the next four years.

Sumner Group places on local digital marketing list
Local advertising agency The Sumner Group, headed by Jacque Sumner, placed 16th on a list of metro Charlotte digital advertising agencies compiled by the Charlotte Business Journal. Sumner posted $210,000 in digital income, and $1 million in total revenue in 2020.
200 Gaston County Children in isolation after testing positive for Covid
Gaston County officials say there are about 200 children in isolation for Covid19 after testing positive in the last 10 days.
“The real concern is that we have so many more cases right now than we did last August as school was starting back. Daily counts in 30′s and 40′s compared to the 133 yesterday and 127 we received today,” Gaston County Director of Communications Adam J. Gaub said.
Children ages 12 and over are eligible to receive the vaccine.
“We’ve had numerous requests for additional information related to school-age exposures following Monday’s data update. As we mentioned in the update, we are certainly alarmed at the acceleration of cases locally and state-wide. Cases have increased across all ages and demographics; however the overwhelming majority are from unvaccinated individuals. Vaccination continues to be our best chance of slowing this rapid spread,” Gaston County Public Health Director Steve Eaton said.

NC $100 gift certificates available as an incentive to get vaccinated
Gaston County is offering $100 gift cards as an incentive to get folks vaccinated, and is offering $25 gift certificates to drivers.
Residents do not need an appointment to get a vaccine. They are available to any resident over the age of 12 Monday through Friday from 8 to 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the health department facility at 991 W. Hudson Blvd., in Gastonia.

Meet Maebel, she is a 1 1/2 year old Treeing Walker hound. She weighs 64 pounds. This beautiful girl gets along with other dogs, cats and loves kids. Maebel is house trained and crate trained. She is very smart and a very sweet girl. Maebel does require a fenced yard. Maebel is still a very young girl with lots of puppy energy, she needs room to run.
As with all hounds, Maebel is a "talker", she would not due well in an apartment.
Maebel is spayed, microchipped and up to date on vaccines.
