Baseball opens May 27th in Gastonia
Can't wait- opening day at the new stadium in the FUSE District is May 27th. If you have been living under a rock, FUSE is the Franklin Urban Sports and Entertainment District, just west of downtown Gastonia, on the site of a former hotel and the Sears building. “This whole area was undeveloped, starving for attention. Some even called it an eyesore,” Gastonia mayor Walker Reid said. “It is my sincere hope that future generations will come here and experience unity in our community.”
Twin Tops not ready for prime time...
Twin tops fish camp- a local favorite- continues to offer carryout and has picnic tables out front. But a grand reopening of the interior looks like it is a way off. Jada Payne Cron says they are having a time getting the 50 year old building up to code. At this point, they are hopeful to get reopened by the first of the year.
Kings Mountain Casino continues to attract development
This evening the Kings Mountain City Council will continue a hearing on rezoning request for a project called Canon 35.The R.D. Harrell Company, out of Matthews, is proposing to build 730 residential units at an estimated cost of $120 million, just a few miles from the planned casino site.
Gaston County Solid Waste & Recycling will hold it's second of four collection events Saturday from 8 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. The event will be held at Dallas Park, at 1303 Dallas Park Highway. Please stay in your vehicle and have smaller items boxed for easier handling.
When will Regal Franklin Square reopen?
Regal Stonecrest at Piper Glen in Charlotte reopened Sunday night, but no word on when the Gastonia theater will follow suit. The Gastonia theater is not listed on the Regal website as being reopened, but their press release says they are going to open theaters in April. Maybe we'll have movies by the weekend?
Wells Fargo continues to close NC branches
People are going online more and more to do their banking, prompting changes in the banking industry. Wells Fargo is closing it's branch in Kings Mountain on Battleground Avenue on July 14th. The bank closed 16 North Carolina branches in 2020, and has closed 11 so far this year, including branches in Mooresville, Conover, and Concord.
Bubba Wallace to star in Netflix documentary series
NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace will star in an Nexflix documentary series as he competes in his first season with the 23 XI team owned by Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin. The series in the latest collaboration between NASCAR and Netflix.
Mother's Day is May 9th.
What the hay has happened to concert ticket prices?
Chris Stapleton tix at PNC start at $80 and go to over $500...and that's for one ticket. In 1965 the Beach Boys came to Charlotte and tickets were $2 and $3 dollars.

Terra Mia has closed in McAdenville, and is opening a new restaurant in the old Peace & Hominy location in Belmont. They also have a location in Kings Mountain.
Hornets LaMello Ball could return this weekend
LaMelo Ball may return to play this weekend, after breaking his wrist March 20th, in a game against the Los Angeles Clippers. There are only 12 games left in the regular season.
8 Gaston County people have died of Covid since last Tuesday
8 families have lost loved ones since last Tuesday to Covid. So far Gaston County has lost 424 people to the virus. Right now we have 0 people on a vent, 29 people hospitalized, and have had 25,999 total cases.
The largest number of cases are in the 25-49 age range.
At least 956,932 people in North Carolina have tested positive for the coronavirus and 12,523 have died since March 2020, according to state health officials.
