Gastonia being considered for a Biscuitville
If you travel to the Triad area of NC you have either been to, or at least passed by, a Biscuitville restaurant. Gastonia is on the list of possible sites for their expansion, along with Mooresville, Harrisburg, Huntersville, Rock Hill, and Hickory. Biscuitville serves breakfast food and southern cuisine. They claim that their biscuits are made hot "from scratch" every 15 minutes. Yum!
Can you help?
A local food pantry trailer has been destroyed by fire. The "Bountiful Blessings" trailer owned by Mt. Zion Restoration Church burned after a power line fell across it. The trailer and all of it's contents were scorched. The trailer stored non-perishable items, but also had several refrigerators inside for other items.
The food pantry served over 135,000 people last year; more than usual due to Covid-19. Second Harvest Food Bank has agreed to loan them a trailer for a few weeks, but they are raising funds for a new trailer.
Interested in helping? If you are interested in donating towards a new trailer, you can send money to the church’s Venmo account @Bountiful-Blessings-1 or mail checks to 2311 Crescent Lane Gastonia, NC 28052
So how did our grocery survey turn out?
Lots of you want a Trader Joe's...
Last week we asked where you shop for groceries, and where you'd like to shop-if you had the opportunity. We had about 40 responses from all over Gaston County, and obviously most of us shop at a grocery store near our homes- but not always! Here are the results:
We told you last week about the new restaurant "Heirloom" coming to Belmont. They are truly a farm to table restaurant-you can check them out here... They will be located in the new North Main Station in Belmont, where the old train cars used to sit. They are looking at a June opening.
Belks in trouble?
Did you grow up going to the Belks in Gastonia or Belmont? Or maybe at Eastridge Mall? I did, and I hate to hear talk that Belk might be the next retail casualty. Standard & Poors says it is likely that the business will run out of cash within a year. Bloomberg News reports that Belk is months behind in paying it's vendors. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, but I still hate to hear it. The retail landscape is changing rapidly, but Belk has been such a strong local name. Looks like Amazon is gobbling up the world.
Three phase community to be built near KM casino?
Not if the Cherokees have anything to say about it...
Wallace Cheves, owner of Let's Roll Holdings and developer of the Kings Mountain Casino is planning a 3 phase community near the casino. The development would include approximately a combined 600 town homes, apartments, and single family homes.
Meanwhile, the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians have a lawsuit pending to try and stop the Kings Mountain casino. The Cherokees claim that the Catawba Indian Nation is encroaching on their lands.
