Lot’s of folks that grew up around here remember the Land of OZ in the North Carolina Mountains. Oz has a dedicated following, and they are open for a few dates in the fall; tickets sell out in a hurry.

Kuppa Joe coffee shop has opened at 3888 West Franklin Blvd., in the former Sweet Scoops location. Run by Darrin Trapp and his family, they serve regular coffee, Iced coffee, expresso, mocha, expresso shots, chai latte, iced tea, hot tea, pastries and more.

City of Gastonia crews are working to repair Brown Street near Airline after a large sinkhole opened on Saturday morning.

The sinkhole partially submerged a pickup truck, which has since been removed. No one was in the truck at the time the sinkhole opened, and no injuries were reported. The cause has not yet been determined.

Brown Street remains closed, and drivers are asked to avoid the area and use alternate routes while crews work. Traffic control measures are in place.

Last Thursday the Gaston County Commissioners unanimously approved Project Tech. The code-named project calls for a $6.3 million investment in a manufacturing plant, at a 9 acre site in the Apple Creek Corporate Center.

The unnamed company would create would create 12 jobs with an average salary of $68,000.

The Apple Creek Corporate Center has about 300 acres between Gastonia and Dallas. The Park was created once the Gastonia Technology Park was almost full.

Anthony Dockery and family are opening a new coffee shop in Stanley called Oliv+Oak Coffee House. They are still remodeling so an opening date has not been determined. It looks like a lot of folks are excited to see them open!

The casino in Kings Mountain is rolling right along, with Phase Two of the Catawba Two Kings Casino Resort nearing completion.

By spring 2027, the resort plans to unveil an all inclusive 2-million-square-foot facility.  The main casino floor will span seven acres, with 3,000 slot machines and over 100 table games. Overlooking the casino floor, a 24-story hotel will offer 385 rooms.

I’m not a big gambler, but hopefully they will have some cool music acts come through.

Carolina QuickCare has broken ground in Dallas at 1200 Dallas Cherryville Highway (near Walmart Grocery). No opening date has been announced. QuickCare claims they are the fastest growing urgent care brand in the country.
