Hope you had a great weekend! We went to Keeneland in Kentucky to a Derby Party. Lot’s of beautiful, funny, and outrageous ladies hats (and some men’s)! It was a lot of fun. But did you watch the Derby? Pretty amazing-Cherie DeVaux: first woman trainer, her horse, Golden Tempo comes from last to first to win, and then 2 jockies that are brothers come in 1 and 2. Watch DeVaux’s reaction here-pure joy! Fairy tale stuff.

So if the interwebs are to be believed, there is a new 7 Brew going to Dallas on the vacant lot beside 7 Eleven, and maybe a Cook Out at the closed Wells Fargo branch at 1018 Dallas Cherryville Hwy., across from Bojangles.

So if my meager research is right, the 7 Brew is coming…and as always generating some small controversy. Lot’s of folks love 7 Brew, and others want other things for Dallas, or nothing at all to keep traffic down. I’ll have to say the drinks on their website look delicious, and the 7 Brew in Shelby stays super busy.

As far as a Cookout, it appears that they did purchase the old Wells Fargo, but as of December 2025 no building permit has been applied for. So it could just be a real estate purchase. According to Cook Out corporate, they don’t have a timeline on a store in Dallas at this time.

Pancho Villa has closed. Their last day was April 30th. I went there when they first opened, and the food was good. Word is that they were sold to new owners and the quality went down…but I stopped going and evidently so did everyone else.

The Dallas Jack in the Box has closed, effective last Sunday, May 3rd. It is not clear if the property has been sold at this time. Jack in the Box corporate announced last week that they were closing 150 to 200 of their under performing stores. About 80-100 stores were expected to close by the end of the year. They are also exploring the sale of their Del Taco brand.

As seen from this view from Hwy 321, the new Gaston Aquatics facility in Dallas is looking good! The new project will include 34,000 sq. ft. project include a cool water 50-meter pool, a warm water programming pool with zero degree entry for classes, therapy, and aquatic safety instruction, elevated spectator seating for 900+, clinical rooms, a weight room, and a hospitality suite. A win for Gaston County! Despite the problems in the craft beer business, the Olde Mecklenburg Brewery in Mount Holly is moving along. “Overlooking the Catawba River and steps from downtown and the greenway, our third biergarten will be the perfect place to unwind with a cold one,” says the brewery.

They hope to open in September of this year.

Folks are saying the new Super Chix in Gastonia is good, and the staff is friendly. Need to check it out! They are 2205 East Franklin Blvd. in Gastonia.

Evidently Mount holly now has a beach, called Tuckaseege Beach or Mount Holly Beach. Actually the water is so low, it just looks like a beach.
