Good morning Gaston County! David here.

Today is August 25th, 2026.

So for all you PSL fans (pumpkin spice latte), Starbucks is officially serving their most popular seasonal drink starting today. Fall may be a month away, but no matter. Pumpkin Spice is extremely popular-I just had some Pumpkin Spice brake shoes put on my Jeep…

Have a great week guys!

Miami Fusion in Lowell has closed

We are sad to report that Miami Fusion in Lowell has closed. (They have the best tres leches in the world!). But not for lack of business…owner Damaris Gonzalez tells us that her catering business has skyrocketed. They do 3-5 catering jobs of very large corporate functions every week, and they needed the space and staff for catering.

We wish them the best and hope they will consider Gaston County again in the near future when they catch their breath!

Need catering? You can reach them at 704-860-1397

The original Gastonia Shrimp Boat where the Pizza Hut is now on Chester and York Roads.

The “new” Shrimp Boat at 120 South Broad Street in Gastonia

Did you know this about the Shrimp Boat?

The things you learn while looking for other things…

I never really thought about it, but I just assumed that the Shrimp Boat in Gastonia was a Gastonia thing and the only one. I had no idea that it was once part of a chain.

The Shrimp Boat was originally brought to Gastonia in 1962 as a trailer restaurant by Navy veteran Bill Long, this location eventually moved into a permanent brick building and has remained a staple in the area.

  • The Original Chain: The Shrimp Boat chain was originally founded in the 1950s (headquartered out of Macon, Georgia) and expanded across the Southeast throughout the 1960s as a fast-casual fried chicken and seafood franchise.

  • Independent Survivors: While the corporate parent entity/chain eventually folded, a small handful of locations—including the Gastonia restaurant (originally established in 1962)—continued to operate independently as local outposts using the original recipes and legacy name.

  • Locally Owned: Today, the Gastonia restaurant operates independently as an iconic local spot rather than a typical modern corporate chain branch.

  • Signature Menu: Like the few other remaining historic Shrimp Boat locations across North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia, it continues to be famously known for both its fried chicken and classic Calabash-style seafood plates.

I have always like the food at Two Chick Sandwiches & Scoops, but I didn’t always like sitting outside to eat. Now they have their own indoor dining option! They are located at 102 South Main Street in Belmont.
