Today is the first day of fall, so all you pumpkin spice freaks can go crazy! I thought a PSL was a Panther’s Season Pass, but evidently it’s a Pumpkin Spice Latte. I confess I have never had one, but I am going to try one this year.
Now off to Drift for our anniversary dinner!

What: Join us for the Blue Ribbon opening ceremony for the Labyrinth at Arts on the Greenway. Enjoy learning to use a labyrinth. Arts on the Greenway will be open and refreshments will be served. Visit the brick sidewalk with the names of those donating bricks, and be sure to check out the bench donated by the Acipiter family.
Raising Cane’s coming to Gastonia
As we told you last week., we heard the Raising Cane’s was coming to Gastonia. The rumor was true- Gastonia has issued a $1.6 million building permit for a 3,252 square foot restaurant. Raising Cane’s says the property will have a patio and drive through.
Construction is already underway at the former Wild Wing Cafe location. They are slated to open in 2027.

Mary Jo’s Inn, Bed & Breakfast underway
The former home of Mary Jo Clonninger of Mary Jo’s fabric fame , is being revitalized into a bed and breakfast. Located at 103 East Main Street in Dallas, the 1889 home is being restored and expanded.
At least one of the rooms is already ready already (yes I did that). Located on the Court Square, what a jewel this will be for Dallas. With the Gaston Aquatic Center nearing completion, I’m sure this place will be booked solid! A great thing Dallas and Gaston County.

Gaston County’s Rick Haithcox to exhibit at the Light Gallery
The work is currently displayed at the Light Factory. The artist Rick Haithcox will be on hand Saturday October 3rd at 7 PM to answer questions and talk briefly about the work.
Captain’s Cap clarification
We told you last week that the Captain’s Cap in Belmont has closed. They do have another location on Linwood Road in Gastonia. We neglected to mention that they also have a location on Hwy . 16 in Denver. All three locations are owned by Spero Stathopoulos and family.
Spencer’s has moved beside La Fuente
Spencer’s (aka Spencer’s Gifts) has moved out of the mall to 3098 East Franklin Blvd.. That’s in the Walmart shopping center.
So if you need a lava lamp, a retro rock and roll or Texas Chain Saw Massacre T-shirt, Spencer’s is your jam. The manager told me that since they moved out of the mall that their business is up 180%.
CaroMont Health expanding again
CaroMont Health is expanding again. This time in the Lake Wylie area..specifically Clover. A new hospital will be built on Hwy. 557, between Charlotte Hwy. and Glen Brandon Road. CaroMont owns 43 acres there.
The facility will follow CaroMont’s neighborhood hospital concept, with a small more flexible design to address everyday needs of local patients.
Construction is expected to start in 2027, with completion in 2031.
Lotus Chophouse & Sushi Bar has moved
We told you recently that Lotus Chophouse & Sushi Bar were moving. Now they have. They are located at 245 West Garrison in Gastonia…the former GEM of Ashley and home of Rodi.
What’s up at 234 East Main in Gastonia?
This property at 234 East Main inn Gastonia already looks better (see below). T?he buzz on the street is that it will be a cool new restaurant.
The mystery deepens… we are hearing that the owners of 234 East Main purchased the building below( which is next door) and are replacing the roofs on both buildings. Wonder what’s coming next-inquiring minds want to know!
