The Gaston County Museum of Art & History celebrates 50th anniversary-unveils new logo

2026 marks a major milestone for the Gaston County Museum of Art & History-their 50th Anniversary!

Since opening in 1976 in the Historic Dallas Courthouse, the Museum has grown in ways one could never have imagined. What began as a small, community-focused institution has become a nationally accredited museum - one that continues to preserve, share, and celebrate the art, history, and stories that shape Gaston County.

This year of celebration also happens to coincide with America’s 250th anniversary, making it a meaningful moment to reflect on history at both a local and national level.

To mark their 50th year, you’ll begin to see the new anniversary logo that will appear throughout 2026

Do you know where this mosaic column is?

This is a 20 foot mosaic column we created by NC Mosaics for the City of Gastonia. The artist is Carlos Gonzalez Garcia. It was all made from recycled glass turned into smalti. It has geometrical forms from downtown buildings. You can see them from the rows that come up from the ground. Also Gastonia is a sanctuary city for bees so it has honeycombs on the top to keep people informed about their habitat.

According to Garcia this is the only column made from recycled glass in North America. The column is in front of the Ghost Peppers/ Caromont Health Park on Franklin in Gastonia.

Measles exposure warning issued

Anyone at Constantine’s Turkish Restaurant at 1825 South New Hope Road in Gastonia after 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 26, 2025, may have been exposed to measles, Gaston County health officials said. Those people should continue to monitor for measles symptoms through Jan. 16, 2026.

The infected person also visited the McAdenville lights, but evidently did not leave the car.
