North Carolina ranks as best state for business, worst state to work inIn July, CNBC ranked North Carolina as the best state in the region to do business in. The CNBC poll looked at things like access to capital, and technology and innovation. In contrast, Oxfam, is a global organization that supports low wage workers and working families ranked NC as the worst state to work in They look at things like state protections against sexual harassment, pregnancy accommodations, and unionization.Oxfam gave North Carolina an 8.3 out of 100 when it came to worker protections. The state got an overall score of 4.5, dragged down further by its 0.0 under “rights to organize.”

10th Case of rabies reported in Gaston CountyA homeowner's cat either killed or brought home a bat infected with rabies, at a home near Linwood Road. This is the 10th case of rabies reported in Gaston County this year.The cat was up to date with it's vaccines and received a booster.
Filipino Facebook Group helps Gaston teachersPerlinda Cueto and Christelle Corpin are new roommates after finding each other on a Filipino Facebook group. They teach Gaston County elementary and high schools, respectively. They both worked with an international job agency that pays for their flight to the US, but nothing more. When they arrived, they needed winter clothes, furniture, and even bed sheets. They put out a call on Facebook to a Filipino American group, and the response was overwhelming. They now have many of the things they need.If you would like to help, they are still collecting food items, clothes, and furniture.You can contact Ms. Corpin at [email protected]
Baker Mayfield never said he was going to F*** up the Browns
Although it sure seems like the brash or confident Mayfield could have trashed his old team that way; actually it was a female reporter that released a private conversation to the press. She says she was the one that said that, and regretted releasing the conversation.Regardless, it's probably not wise to make Mayfield mad. In college Mayfield walked on at Texas Tech, but left a year later after difficulties with a scholarship and the coaching staff. He sat out the 2014 season, and then walked on at the university of Oklahoma. With Baker at the helm, Oklahoma beat Texas Tech three years straight, Oklahoma scoring 63, 66, and 49 to win.Mayfield seems like he has the physical talent, and evidently he relishes controversy. We'll see if he has the maturity to go with it. He might just be the spark the Panthers need.
Gastonia plans free bulk trash pickupTe week of September 19th Gastonia residents will have access to free bulk pickup at their homes. That meas items like mattresses, lawn mowers, furniture,and other items that won't fit in city garbage bins can be left at the curb.The city waives its fees for bulk trash collection; typically, residents pay $15 for items weighing up to 100 pounds or $25 for items weighing more than that.
