Norfolk Southern grants Belmont Trolley $5000
Belmont Trolley, Inc. has received a $5,000 grant from Norfolk Southern through its Thriving Communities Grant Program. The funding will support the next phase of the Belmont Trolley project—raising the walls on the future trolley pavilion—enabling the organization to expand its educational programming, preserve history, and create a safer, more sustainable mobility option in downtown Belmont.
The Belmont Trolley project will restore and operate three historic trolley cars along a mile-long line connecting Belmont Abbey College, the Sacred Heart campus, and downtown Belmont. The future facility will house the restored trolleys, provide flexible space for community and cultural programming, and serve as a research and innovation hub. By combining transportation history with modern wireless power and battery systems, the project advances sustainability while improving community safety, reducing parking strain, and boosting local economic growth.
