If Ian goes west of Charlotte, it may bring severe weather, including tornadoes, gusty winds, heavy downpours and flash flooding.2.But if Ian heads east, the severe weather risk drops and the wind and rain might not be as heavy.

Author Beth Macy spoke recently at Gaston College. Macy is the author of Dopesick, on which the popular Hulu series is based. Dopesick dealt with America's struggle with opioid addiction. Her new book Raising Lazarus  explores solutions.

"The reason I wrote this book now is because the opioid litigation settlement funds are about to drop...and we know that every dollar we spend on treatment can save twelve or more and reduce criminal justice and health care costs. So it's really important that we spend the money right" said Macy.Macy was scheduled to speak at the White House last Friday. You can find out more about local efforts to extend life and faith based harm reduction  here...

Stone Fired Social opening next to String BeanThe owners of String Bean in Belmoont are opening a new stone fired pizza place next door.“Belmont is a close knit community. There are lots of regulars at The String Bean, and they were saying, ‘I wish there was still a pizza place there,’”said co-owner Nate Helton. “So we thought, why don’t we do this? We own the building. We are in the restaurant business. So we went to New York City and did research — even went to pizza school — tried all different types of pizza and formulated our menu. It’s really an extension of what we are already doing.”They hope to be open by mid-October.

Restaurant NewsGrits n' Green in Lowell has closed.September 3rd was their last day.

 Panthers...Christian great, Mayfield meh...

Panthers beat the Saints  22-14The Panthers had a big week 3 win against an ailing but still effective James Winston and the Saints. The defense was again the star of the day. The Panthers created a take away by Frankie Luvu causing a fumble that resulted in a 44 yard touchdown. There were also two 4th quarter interceptions. On the offense, Laviska Shenault Jr. had two receptions for 90 yards, one for a 67 yard touchdown. Christian McCaffrey added some spark to an otherwise anemic offense, ending the game with 108 yards on 25 carries.Mayfield, Mayfield. Mayfield needs to show some urgency. He can't count on the defense scoring every week.He had some bad misses early, but he did throw for a touchdown. He does seem to have good chemistry with the other players, and he has acknowledged that he has to improve, so we'll see.
