Northway Homes project moves forward after close vote
The Gastonia City Council has voted 4-3 to approve Northway Homes rezoning request for a single family home project in Gastonia.The property in question is an 83.4 acre site between Briar Oak and Penny Park drives. The City limited the density to 218 homes. The request was approved after being tabled for months. Northway says engineering work for the site has begun.
Claire's closing Franklin Square stores
Claire's is closing 10 North Carolina stores, including the store in Franklin Square, as part of their bankruptcy proceedings.Claire's sells jewelry and accessories for teens and preteens.Claire's declared bankruptcy August 25th, with 27 North Carolina stores staying open.
Fifth Third Bank opening in Belmont
Fifth Third Bank is opening a new full service facility at 975 South Point Road in Belmont. The bank will include Fifth Third's "next gen " features, which include flexible meeting areas, and a digital technology wall with interactive displays.The branch will be staffed by four employees.
Carolina Thread Trail awarded America 250 NC Grant forSpencer Mountain
Carolina Thread Trail (CTT) was awarded $30,000 from America 250 NC to fund research of historic Spencer Mountain in Ranlo, NC. Spencer Mountain is Gaston County’s third highest peak at 1,250 ft. and will have over three miles of Thread Trail offering Charlotte skyline and Blue Ridge Mountain views that are anticipated to draw approximately 1,000,000 visitors annually. Spencer Mountain’s rich cultural and natural history offers a unique opportunity to unite visitors on common ground, telling stories of “struggle, creation, and connection to one another.”

Kings Mountain Exchange in Gaston County has been completed and is ready for lease. the 282,640 square foot building at 540 Canterbury Road is owned by Charlotte based Hamilton Property Company.
Kings Mountain Exchange has room for users from 56,638 square feet up to full-building tenants. The building boasts 36-foot clear heights, 56 dock-high doors, two drive-in doors and 52 trailer parking spaces.
