Belmont Trolley project to begin construction in 2025Three trolley cars have been refurbished and now they need a home..and it's coming. A Trolley Barn will be built in two phases, with the pavilion being built first, and the building second.The Barn should be completed by September 2025, and cost an estimated $3.7 million.The project is a joint effort between the City of Belmont, Belmont Trolley Inc., N.C. Department of Transportation, and the UNC Charlotte School of Engineering.
LL Flooring aka Lumber Liquidators to closeLL Flooring, formerly known as Lumber Liquidators, has declared bankruptcy, and was unable to find a buyer. Consquently they will close all 424 stores nationwide. This includes the Gastonia store at 2930 East Franklin Blvd. in Gastonia
Bolton's open in Mount Holly

Bolton's Curbside Cookery used to be a food truck, and now it's a brick and mortar restaurant. You always had to stand in line to get one of their delicious smash burgers..I mean the best you ever had!They are located at 108 South Main Street in Mount Holly, beside Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Their hours are Tuesday through Saturday 11am-9pm.
New ice cream and candy shop opens in DallasCousins Abigale Sigmon and Lillian Zollo have opened Sweet Grace ice cream and candy shop in Dallas at 3130 Dallas Shoals Highway. They are in the shopping strip with Southern States and Papa's and Beer.They are featuring Blue Bell ice cream flavors in cones and cups, milkshakes, and ice cream nachos made with waffle cone chips. They also sell bulk candy.Sweet Grace is a family business, and will be open from noon until 9 PM daily.
Stowe Family YMCA has major groundbreaking event

On Thursday, September 5th the Stowe Family YMCA hosted an exciting groundbreaking event, marking the beginning of a transformative expansion and renovation project. The event was attended by more than 300 community members, supporters, and local leaders, highlighting the strong support for the YMCA’s commitment to serving the community by enhancing its offerings and expanding its reach. The expansion will add over 15,000 square feet of new space to the facility. “A striking new entrance will serve as a beacon of belonging, welcoming everyone who steps through our doors,” said Mary Moffitt, Executive Director. With a strong emphasis on safety, the design features an expanded lobby and a warm, inviting living room space to foster social interaction among members and visitors.
300 homes planned for new Crawford's Cove development in GastoniaA site off of Superior Stainless Road in Gastonia will be developed for 331 single family detached homes by DP Development.The homes are expected to be in the $300,000 range, and the development will have access to the Greenway Trail, 22 acres of open space, and 6 designated community spaces.Superior Stainless Road is off of 321 South, towards the SC state line.

City of Mount Holly Welcomes Economic Development Director Matt Black

The City of Mount Holly is pleased to announce the appointment of Matt Black as the new Economic Development Director. With an extensive background in urban revitalization and strategic economic development, Black brings a wealth of experience to his new role.
Previously serving as the Downtown Director and Facility Maintenance Director for the City of Monroe, Matt Black spearheaded numerous initiatives aimed at enhancing urban spaces and supporting local businesses. His efforts included developing business incentives, promoting retail strategies, and overseeing key redevelopment projects.
Black holds a Master’s in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing from the Universitat de València, Spain, and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. His academic achievements are complemented by practical experience in the food brokerage industry and as a student ambassador for the International Business School Alliance.

Dynamo 31 building in McAdenville.Gaston County Tourism staying put for nowThe Gaston County Commissioners voted 5-2 last week to deny a request by Gaston County Tourism to move into a space at Dynamo 31 in McAdenville.The deal would have seen the Tourism office move into a 4185 square foot space with a 10 year lease starting at $87,885 per year. "I think it's a little too rich for our blood," said commissioner Bob Hovis.
Northlake Mall continues to struggle-for sale?Northlake Mall is headed for a potential sale.Norhlake owner Starwood Capital missed a mortgage payoff in 2017 of $646 million. That loan is part of a 4 mall portfolio owned by Starwood. Earlier this year the property was appraised by Mecklenburg County at $133,6 million.In April Express Inc said it was closing 100 locations, including the location at Northlake. American Eagle, Soma, White House Black Market, and Chicos have also walked away from leases. American Eagle has filed a countersuit claiming that Norhtlake is a hotbed of violent crime.

Fundraising campaign saves The RoosterThe Rooster is a live music venue in downtown Gastonia stated by Michael and Christy Carpenter. The venue was their dream, but after several mortgage paymnet increases, they got behind.Carpenter decided to start a Go Fund Me campaign. The campaign raised $36,714, he got $1000 in cash donations, a raffle raised $2000, and a benefit concert raised $4700."Sunday morning when I got up, I tallied everything up to see where we're at, and we're just under five grand short of the total we were looking for," said Carpenter. "And yesterday, we made a huge push. There were a couple of people who reached out and were like, 'How much do you need?' And made big donations to get us over the goal."Congrats guys!
