Wild & Whimsy opening in former Ford's Seed & PlantsThe President of the Gastonia Farmer's Market has opened Wild & Whimsy in the former Ford's Seed & Plant space in Gastonia. Lauren Dawsey-Smith wants to continue Ford's legacy with her seed, garden, and local market store.One side of the store will have floral arrangements for any occasion, and the other will feature baked items, soaps, spices, candles and more.If you just got here from New York, Ford's..I mean Wild & Whimsy is located at 231 East Main in Gastonia. The store is open every Tuesday-Saturday from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.
Another speculative industrial project for Gaston County?A new project proposed by Tectonic Real Estate calls for the construction of a 188,604 square foot speculative industrial building at a site off of Jenkins Dairy Road in Gastonia. The site is near Exit 14 and I-85.The Gastonia City Council approved a level-one incentive grant and authorized a economic development agreement. The Gaston County Board of Commissioners met last week to discuss incentives for the project.
Caterpillar to team with Albemarle Corp to reopen Kings Mountain lithium mineLithium mining operations ceased in Kings Mountain in the 1980's. Albemarle Corp is in the pre-permitting process to reopen the mine.They have also partnered with Caterpillar Inc. with the goal of zero emissions mining at the Kings Mountain site. Under the agreement, Caterpillar would provide battery-powered, electric trucks and mining equipment for use at the mine. Albemarle, meanwhile, would be the primary supplier of lithium for use in Caterpillar's battery production, the companies announced.Albemarle Corp is not associated with Belmont's Piedmont Lithium.

Unfortunately things haven’t worked in our favor and the construction wasn’t something we just wanted to do and it was things we had not even planned on financially. It is disheartening for our family and we would love nothing more than to be open and seeing our friends and family dining with us. Yes… we are struggling and it’s not fun! So please before you say things that can be hurtful please know we are good people and we are trying to do our best to push forward daily. You don’t know how hard this has been for us and you don’t walk the path with us either and we are doing everything in our ability to get things completed and move forward. If you don’t have something nice to say then just don’t say it… it isn’t that hard! You don’t know what we are dealing with and we are just trying to make it. Mount Holly suspect climbs tree to escape police32 year old Patrick Swann led officers on a chase through the woods on Sunday night. When they found him, he had climbed a tree.Police negotiated with Swann for about three hours to come down, but he eventually told them that he wasn't able to come down. Police decided to check him for weapons using a drone. “We gave him some instructions to raise his shirt up so we could check his waistline and pull his pockets out and those types of things so that we could fly the drone around him and make sure to the best of our ability that he wasn’t armed with a weapon,” said police Captain Matt Hensley.Due to the difficulty of the terrain, the Fire Department was unable to gt any equipment onsite to effect a rescue. They eventually instructed Swann on how to climb down. He was arrested as soon as he reached the ground.
