Piedmont Lithium gets $141.7 million grantPiedmont Lithium, who has somewhat controversial plans for Gaston County, has received a $141.7  million dollar grant from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). The grant is one of the first set of projects funded by the President’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to expand domestic manufacturing of batteries for EVs and the electrical grid and for materials and components currently imported from other countries. The funding will support the construction of the Company’s approximately $600 million Tennessee Lithium project, which aims to expand the U.S. supply of lithium hydroxide by 30,000 metric tons per year (“tpy”). Lithium hydroxide is a key component of high energy density, long-range, EV batteries.

Albemarle Corp. exploring reopening lithium mine in Kings MountainCharlotte based Albemarle Corp is exploring reopening a lithium mine in Kings Mountain that has been closed for 40 years. The company says it is doing a "pre-feasability study" that will determine if they reopen the mine.

Parkdale Mills makes list of largest private companiesParkdale made the Charlotte Business Journal's largest private Charlotte area companies. They tied for 8th with 2021 annual revenue of $1 billion. They were established in 1916 and have 15,000 employees.A private company is one whose stock is not publicly traded.

Cheerwine flavored beer?Charlotte's NODA Brewery is working with softdrink Cheerwine to produce a "Cheerwine Ale". The company has asked fans to help them choose a can design, seen at right.

Participating local businesses will be providing lots of treats at this downtown event! Free to participate!

Line-up starts at 3:45pm at the corner of Mill Street and E. First Street. The Treat Walk will begin promptly at 4:00pm and will conclude by 5:00pm.

Local businesses will be handing out candy on this guided walk around one of our downtown blocks.The group will be led by adult volunteers. Police and City staff will also assist to ensure the children's safety.

New Thai & Sushi restaurant to open in Mount HollyAs we reported earlier, a new Thai and Sushi restaurant is opening in Mount Holly  at 119 North Main, where H&M Catering used to be.In fact, the restaurant will be called One19 North Main.According to owner Eddie Gluck, they intend to offer sushi, pad thai, as well as other options, a signature cocktail and a full bar. They hope to be open the beginning of November.

A Halloween parade for children Kindergarten and younger. Please join us in the parking lot of First Baptist Church Cherryville as we begin the parade. All participants are part of the parade and will be lead down Main Street by the CHS marching band. After walking the parade route to city hall, parade goers will then be turned around to trick or treat with all of our downtown merchants!! Happy Halloween!
