Gastonia natives need your help to help others"The devastation is biblical"

Gastonia natives Leeth Davis and his wife, along with a group of local Ashe County volunteers, have started Lansing's Bridge to Recovery. Lansing BTR is a 501(c)3 charity where all of the moneys and volunteer efforts go to rebuild private driveways, roads, or bridges. Every penny goes directly to the people affected. From the Gofumdme:On September 27th, 2024, Hurricane Helene devastated the community of Lansing located in Ashe County, North Carolina. Many residents in the region have suffered severe damage to their homes and property due to flash flooding and fallen trees. Lansing's Bridge to Recovery is a 501c3 nonprofit organization of individuals living in the area that are working diligently to rebuild/repair private bridges, culverts, and driveways throughout the community. We are focusing on those who do not have access to and from their homes and cannot financially afford to fix the damage. We have dozens of volunteers with professional expertise in road building, bridge building, project management, construction, and heavy equipment operation that are donating their time for FREE. We already have heavy excavation equipment, dump trucks, trailers, and off-road vehicles on site and in route. Funds will be primarily used towards materials and supplies for rebuilding access for those in desperate need and aiding in further construction projects for those devastated by this disaster. If there are any leftover funds, it will be given to vetted, non-profit funds in the area. Who We Are:We started out as a group of friends (Steven Howell, Lora Young, and Leeth & Emily Davis) around a grill in downtown Lansing, NC after the flood waters receded. We began by grilling food, collecting supplies, and delivering to those in need. It has since transformed into one of many key relief efforts in the area. We formed a 501c3 nonprofit organization, Lansing's Bridge to Recovery. We have helped hundreds of residents in Lansing, Warrensville, Creston, Laurel Springs, Crumpler, Piney Creek, and other surrounding areas in Ashe County, NC. Our base camp is set up in downtown Lansing, NC at The Liar's Bench and surrounding buildings. We have a free clothing store, supply warehouse, material yard, and office setup. We are building bridges to reconnect our communities.Link to gofundmeLink to website

Looks like Whataburger is coming to Gastonia
Whataburger is coming to Gastonia, and will be in the old Backyard Burgers location. Whataburger has quite a following. They have been around since 1950, and were originally from Corpus Christi Texas. They currently have 817 locations. They have a large menu, but they are know for their extra large hamburgers, that supposedly take two hands to hold. There have been several Whataburger and What-A -Burger restaurants over the years, and some still exist. One you may know is the What-A-Burger Drive In's out of Concord. Whataburger is not related to the Concord operation.

Charlotte leaders looking at revitalizing Bojangles ColiseumThe Bojangles Coliseum is 69 years old- built in 1955. Every time I go I think -what a cool building! The mid-century modern esthetic is just amazing. Now local Charlotte leaders are looking at a likely budget, a sequence and cost of needed projects, and how that would benefit Charlotte tourism. Many of you have attended events at the venue...Elvis was here several times. Currently the Coliseum is home to the Charlotte Checkers.Interesting fact: the roof is tin, not steel.

4 Gaston College cross country runners set personal bests in final tune up before Region 10 championships
by Richard Walker
Gaston College's final tune up before next week's Region 10 championships was a success as all four runners finished with personal bests and the Rhinos competed in a talented field of mostly NCAA Division I runners on Saturday morning at Milliken Research Center in Spartanburg, S.C.
Sophomore Keirieonna Wilson (19 minutes, 30.5 seconds for 80th-place), freshman Lexi Birtwistle (20:28.9 for 117th), freshman Maddie Frank (21:07.9 for 140th) and sophomore Abbygale King (25:38.8 for 186th) all had their best times as Gaston College was without other runners and didn't have the necessary five participants for a team score.
"I could not be more proud of how the ladies ran today," Gaston College cross country coach Kody Kubbs said. "All four of our runners set career bests with their times at an incredibly competitive invitational."Today's performance is a testament to their hard work and dedication to their training routine. This was our final tune up before Region 10 next Saturday so it's definitely nice to go into the week feeling good about where our training has gotten us too."Now we gotta turn around and get ready for our biggest race of the year next Saturday."
