I grew up watching The Mickey Mouse Club in the afternoons, and couldn't wait for The wonderful World of Disney on Sunday nights.Disney was founded on October 16, 1923 by brothers Walt and Roy Disney. They have filled countless children and adults with joy and wonder over the years; I was one of them.

Catawba Two Kings Casino vs SkyBoat GamingThe Catawba Nation is trying to extricate themselves from a deal with SkyBoat Gaming. In December of last year the Indian Gaming Commission found that the Catawba Two Kings Casino was in violation of Federal law. The law states that gaming must be protected as a means of generating revenue for the tribes.Develper Wallace Cheves and SkyBoat gaming are asking for "a one-time $125 million payment and then $6 million annual payments for access to adjacent non-trust land currently housing the temporary casino’s parking lot."There is a temporary facility on the property now, and a permanent facility was to have been under construction in 2022.

Two Gaston County Banks among Charlotte Metro's largest community banksTwo local banks are among the largest community banks in the Charlotte Metro area, as reported by the Charlotte Business Journal.AB&T Financial placed 9th on the list with $224.57 million in deposits. They have four local branches, and their home branch is at 292 West Main Avenue in Gastonia.Belmont Savings Bank placed 16th on the list with $114.59 million in deposits and one location. That location is at 210 Park Street in Belmont.
Belmont Abbey receives $9 million grant for proposed performing arts centerBelmont Abbey College has received a $9 million grant for a proposed performing arts center.Senator Brad Overcash says the center will be build with "full community input", and that 25 local leaders in the Arts Community will be chosen to be part of the project's Community Leadership Advisory Committee.According to the Belmont Abbey,, the group would “solicit and collect input from the college’s constituents and other subject matter experts in the community to formulate recommendations that will be developed into a report that would include conceptual drawings and suggested programming in the center.”

Downtown Mount Holy was absolutely packed to hear On the Border, an Eagles tribute band. It is estimated there were 6000 folks or more; I just know it was jamming!

Gaston County Police Officer Pullen does Heimlich maneuver to save studentWhen Gaston Police Officer Pullen saw a teacher escorting student in distress towards him, he knew he had to act fact. He immediately started the Heimlich maneuver, but it wasn't until the 5th try that the student expelled the foreign matter and was able to breathe.The student was fine, and Officer Pullen was later honored at a school board meting.See video

No tennis tournament for us...We had been telling you about the Western & Southern Open tennis tournament possibly moving to the River District just across the river in Charlotte. Turns out they are not coming.The owner if the Western & Southern Open have decided to keep the tournament in Cincinnati. This in spite of the fact that the State, City and County had pledged $115 million to build a new stadium in the River District.Disappointing.
Participating local businesses will be providing lots of treats at this downtown event! Free to participate!
Line-up starts at 3:45pm at the corner of Mill Street and E. First Street. The Treat Walk will begin promptly at 4:00pm and will conclude by 5:00pm.
Local businesses will be handing out candy on this guided walk around one of our downtown blocks.
The group will be led by adult volunteers. Police and City staff will also assist to ensure the children’s safety.

Miami Dolphins 42, Carolina Panthers 21Not much to say or see here. The Panthers are a dumpster fire.They played well for the first 15 minutes. Unfortunately there were 45 more to go.Quarterback Bryce Young had arguably his best game as a pro at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. He completed 23 of 38 pass attempts for 217 yards and a touchdown. It wasn't enough.The second half was the Dolphin's Tyreek Hill show: he finished with 163 receiving yards and 1 touchdown.The Panthers are 0-6, and have a bye next week.
