Abut that Wilkinson Blvd. bridge....
Improvements to the Wilkinson Boulevard bridge in Belmont were promised, but then...crickets.
The project calls for replacing the current bridge with a six-lane structure featuring wider lanes, separated pedestrian/bike paths, and a raised center section for better boat clearance. While initial plans had construction starting in 2022, the project is now expected to begin in summer 2026 due to delays in permitting and right-of-way acquisition.

Waterbean Coffee is opening this Friday, and I am excited! The new Waterbean Exquisite is the first of it's kind, and a great addition to Gastonia and the FUSE District. They are located at 618 West Franklin Blvd.
Aura Cocktail Lounge has opened at 182 West Main Avenue in Gastonia. They are open Wednesday through Sunday. The proprietor, Jay Woods said "My being a resident of Gaston County, I've seen the vision as far as the city expanding," he said. "I'm really a big fan of the community."

Zawyer Sports is at it again
Those folks at Zawyer Sports -owners of the Gastonia Ghost Peppers- are busy bees. They also own the Charlotte Checkers, and now they are adding women's basketball. The Charlotte Crown is set to debut in 2026. The last time we had a women's pro team was the Sting, which folded in 2006.The new team will play at the BoPlex..the new name of the Bojangles Coliseum.Not in Gaston County, but in case you haven't noticed, women's basketball is hot! One great thing about Gaston County is the proximity to so many cultural and sports events.

Walmart acquires $300 million building in Gaston County
Walmart has bought a humongous building in the Kings Mountain Corporate Center. While the address is in the city of Kings Mountain, the business park it itself is in Gaston County. Walmart says they plan to create more than 300 jobs at the facility, which will be a fulfillment center for large items like televisions, appliances, and furniture. They expect to open in 2027.
