New restaurant named "Tasty" to open on South New HopeOwners of Agave Mexican to open new healthy choice restaurantAmbi and Rossie Acosta, owners of Agave Mexican, are opening a new restaurant in the former Grille Works location on South New Hope. They will serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner.For breakfast they expect to serve omelets, French toast, burritos and breakfast bowls. They will also serve coffee all day long, including iced coffee, cappuccinos and lattes. Along with many healthy options, they will also have local craft beers, wine, and a full bar.Tasty is located at 3826 South New Hope Road. They expect to be open mid-October.

The Boys & Girls Club of Gaston has received a mini-pitch from the Charlotte Football Club. The field is part of a larger effort to install 22 fields or pitches around the Charlotte Metro area.“So great to give back to the community, and I just know that this is something for the kids to do after school, get some exercise, get some study, get a good meal,” said a Senior VP of Operations Daimler Trucks, CLT FC Partner.
Gozzo named top manager for 2nd straight seasonAfter the Honey Hunters spectacular79-47 season, the ALPB has awarded Mauro "Goose" Gozzo the top manager trophy for the second straight season. During Gozzo’s tenue, 11 player contracts were purchased from Gastonia by MLB, MLB affiliates, or overseas leagues, creating opportunities for players to advance in their careers.
Lowell considering Social DistrictThe City of Lowell is considering implementing a Social district, which would allow patrons to purchase alcohol in specially marked cups, and walk around outside in a designated area. Not everyone is in favor-there are petitions circulating against the idea.“We have seen that others have utilized it for more restaurants to come in their downtown,” City Manager Scott Attaway said. “We thought this might be a good tool. The Gaston Business Association hosted a session that gave us a lot of information on this, and since that point forward, we’ve been looking at maybe this is a possibility for Lowell, maybe it’s not.”
US Postal Facility in Mount Holly's Gateway85 project near openingHiring hundredsThe USPS has occupied a 620,000 square foot building in Gateway85 in Mount Holly, and appears to be nearly ready to open.NorthPoint is the developer behind the Gateway85 project. NorthPoint's Caleb Moore says that USPS is "gearing up to actually start their operations here in the next month or so," adding that it is "putting a huge investment in that building."There was a job fair in Gastonia earlier this month. The USPS said it is in the process of "hiring approximately 500 full-time, part-time and seasonal employees for Charlotte-area facilities, including the facility in Gaston County."

Local businesses will be handing out candy on this guided walk around one of our downtown blocks.
The group will be led by adult volunteers. Police and City staff will also assist to ensure the children’s safety.

Jesse Cole-still going bananas!
Gaston County lost a gem when we lost Jesse Cole and his brand of baseball. He is now with the Savannah Bananas in Savannah Georgia..and they have gone, well...bananas!They used to compete in a summer collegiate series as part of the Coastal Plain Leagues West Division. But since 2022 they are an exhibition team-a la Harlem globetrotters- with their own sister team, The Party Animals.Jesse and his team have made baseball fun to the Nth degree. They have changed the rules for a more fan focused approach, and basically the evening is a baseball game with a circus around it!They have just announced their Bananaland at Sea, which is a cruise aboard the Norwegian Jade. The cruise is scheduled for October 14-18, 2024. More about the cruise here.Congrats to Jesse and his staff! Glad to see that yellow tux is getting a lot of use! Panthers: Bryce Young isn't the problem
Ouch-Detroit Lions 42, Carolina Panthers 24So the Panthers are now 0-5, and the division leading Lions are 4-1. The Panthers are the only winless team in the NFL.But- the problem isn't Bryce Young. Doesn't matter who the quarterback is, the problems are at the receiver position, in the run game, or the up front protection. If receivers can't separate and win their one on ones, doesn't matter who the QB is. If the QB has no protection, or if the run game is poorly executed..that's not on the QB.As far as Sunday's game:The Panthers turned the ball over 3 times in the first half, to set Detroit up for three touchdowns and a 28-10 halftime lead.Bryce Young was 25 of 41 for 247 yards and three touchdowns and two interceptions.Panthers rookie G Chandler Zavala, who was taken to a local hospital after a neck injury, was released and is raveling home with the team.The Panthers play the Dolphins in Miami next Sunday.
