Some great news for an embattled spot in downtown GastoniaWe don't have all the details yet, but it looks like the church at 602 Dr. Martin Luther King Way in Gastonia is being transformed. Formerly the home of Faith, Hope and Love Enrichment  Ministries, the building and property will undergo major renovations to become a non-profit cosmetology school. You may recall that the property, and Pastor Moses Colbert were in the news quite a bit recently, with Pastor Colbert and the City of Gastonia trying to resolve their differences regarding serving the homeless population. Faith, Hope and Love has since moved to another location. The structure is a significant one, formerly the home of Saint Stephens AME Zion church, and has been designated a historic site. That church moved and took over the former First Baptist Church in downtown Gastonia in 2000. We are excited to see the building have a new lease on life, and will bring you updates as they become available.

Crowders Mountain has reopened- and folks are happy!Crowders Mountain was closed for several weeks so Park Rangers could head west and  help in Western North Carolina after Hurricane Helene. The park is now open, and the parking lot was full this weekend.“It was crowded. But everyone out there was so nice, everyone smiling and waving as we’re walking past. And on the pinnacle trail, you have to hike up and crawl up some stones to get up there. And everyone’s been super helpful helping people up and just get out there and enjoying the fall weather in Charlotte,” said hiker Caitlin Brock.

Gaston College wins second straight game in impressive 38-point home victory

by Richard Walker

Gaston College's basketball team completed an early season two-game homestand with back-to-back impressive victories on Saturday afternoon in a 99-61 victory over the Pfeiffer University developmental team at Gastonia's Ashbrook High School.

The Rhinos improved to 2-1 in a game where they trailed for only 16 seconds.

First-year head coach Benny Moss still saw room for improvement as he knows the schedule will be toughening for his team in the coming weeks.

"Again, we didn't guard the way we needed to at the start of the game," Moss said. "We gave up nine points in the first four minutes and then there's three minutes left in the half and they've got 16 points. So we picked up the pace."
