Good morning Gaston County, David here. Today is May 9th.Baseball, hot dogs and apple pie-you gotta love it! Stuart Cramer's Nate Brittain pitches tonght against Kings Mountain in the playoffs. Loser goes home. Nate has been scouted by major league scouts because of his 90 to 100 mile per hour fast ball. He plans on attending Campbell University in the fall, although there is a chance he may be drafted in the MLB draft in July.Go Storm!

New Linwoood Springs park takes shape
This new park, located on the old Linwood Springs Golf Club property near Crowders Mountain, is going to be incredible. It’s currently being designed, but it will have lots of fun activities for families, including camping, RV sites, disc golf, trails, fishing, volleyball, and a dog park. The site plan is subject to change, but great reuse of this beautiful land! The Former Linwood Springs Golf Club was located on 148 acres of land near Crowder's Mountain, and had sat for over ten years unused. Very exciting!
DMV changes policy to allow more walk-insNorth Carolina DMV officials have changed their policy to allow more walk-ins, but fewer online appointments.The Mount Holly location often has a line out the door, and a quick check said there was no availability this morning.Stats show that there is a 90 day wait at most Charlotte Metro locations for an appointment, and there is about a 25% no-show percentage. Often, there is limited seating and rest room availability as well.
Hungry Howe's pizza now open in DallasDallas has a new pizza place. Hungry Howie's Flavored Crust Pizza has opened at 701 West Trade street, just in front of Ingle's grocery.This will be the third Hungry Howie's in Gaston County.
Dallas Park getting a new playgroundDallas Park is getting a new "inclusive " playground. That means it will be for children of various abilities and backgrounds. It will include a roundabout, climbers, a pod spinner, and swings, and is designed for kids between 2 and 12 years of age.The project is being funded by Gaston County and a Land Water Conservation Grant. The funds will also be utilized to build restrooms on the eastern side of the park.
Opening Doors to Spring exhibition at Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden
We were out at the Garden Sunday, and the Garden is beautiful right now! Part of the beauty is the Opening Doors to Spring exhibit, which is a series of doors painted by students from the highland School of Technology. The exhibit is there through June 4th.

Waterbean Coffee opens Friday in Belmont
We told you a couple of months ago that Waterbean Coffee was opening across from CaroMont Health Park in Gastonia in the old Powers Seafood building.That store is not open yet. But as of Friday, they are opening another store at 35 North Main Street in Belmont, next to City Hall.
