20 New loft apartments coming to old Coca Cola buildingCramerton based Lenox Development is undertaking a new project in the FUSE District in Gastonia. Called The Dillinger, they are remodeling one of the old Coca Cola buildings, located at 620 Franklin Boulevard in Gastonia,  into 20 loft apartments. The project calls for an approximate $15 million dollar investment.

So he just won $4 million dollars this weekend...

Gaston College Rhinos at JUCO World Series in Grand Junction Colorado

The Gaston College Rhino baseball team is in Grand Junction Colorado for the JUCO World Series. The JUCO World Series is an annual baseball tournament held across three divisions of the National Junior College Athletic Association baseball. Taking place in late May and early June each year, it determines the junior college baseball national champions.

The girls softball Rhinos from Gaston College competed at the Softball World Series in Oxford Alabama recently. Unfortunately they were eliminated on the second day- but we are still very proud of them! Go Rhinos!

100 luxury townhomes coming to Belmont

Land for Tri Pointe Homes Charlotte is building 100 luxury townhomes at the intersection of South New Hope and Armstrong Roads. "The front of the home will have a front porch and front door, and the actual back of the home will be a garage. So the streetscape will look very nice from the front,"  said Margaret Puckett, Vice President for Land for Tri Pointe Homes Charlotte.They expect townhomes to be for sale next summer in the $300,00 plus range.

Piemont Lithium project pushed back to 2027?It appears that the mine in Gaston County proposed by Piedmont Lithium wouldn't be able to start until 2027, based on permitting delays and other issues. "A combination of variables determine our estimated timeline and some of these activities are taking longer than initially anticipated," said Patrick Brindle, chief operating officer,  "Our current first production target of 2027 best fits our expectations in terms of permitting, project financing, equipment deliveries, estimated construction schedules, and development timelines for other projects in our global portfolio."If the Gaston project should move forward, it would encompass 1500 acres, although the project has been met with pushback from local residents and politicians. 

Mount Holly to replace 2 firetrucks, hire 12 firefighters

Mount Holly has approved the purchase of two new fire trucks, and the hiring of 12 additional fire fighters.They plan to decommission two fire trucks: a 1999 Spartan, and a 2002 Smeal. Finding replacement parts for the trucks has become increasingly difficult. The department will purchase two state-of-the-art Pierce engines with a total cost of $1,784,214.00.

With hiring twelve firefighters, the three Mount Holly fire stations will have four firefighters, 24 hours a day, at each station.

Floyd & Blackie's opens new location

Floyd & Blackie's opened the new location of their coffee shop, ice cream and bakery in Cramerton on Sunday.  The restaurant side of the business is expected to open later this week.

Leydi Cardona of Belmont has been missing since April 22nd. Cardona is described as a Hispanic girl with brown hair and brown eyes. She is 12 years old,  about 5′4″ tall and weighs around 140 pounds.Anyone with information about Cardona or her disappearance is asked to call the Belmont Police Department at 704-866-3300 or contact NCMEC at 1-800-THE-LOST (1-800-843-5678).

No more "light bulb moments?Most incandescent and halogen lightbulbs will disappear from store shelves this summer, due to a new federal law aimed at energy efficiency that will make it illegal to sell the bulbs starting in July.  

The new Department of Energy rules state that bulbs must have a minimum efficiency of 45 lumens per watt (a measure of how much light is produced for a unit of electricity). The average incandescent bulb produces 15 lumens per watt, while LED lighting ranges up to 150 lumens per watt.

Starting a new mixed and senior mixed league in Gastonia at George Poston Park this summer.

This is a draft league, so you come as an individual or couple; no need to find a team. Each team has a coach that drafts players based on salary and salary cap. What you end up with is balanced teams in a competitive and friendly league.
