Pharr brings in Exec from Nuveen Pharr continues to diversify away from textiles
Pharr has hired Jessica Trombold to lead it's strategy in investments and real estate. Trombold was previously with Nuveen in Charlotte.
“This role is vital as we continue to grow and expand across new and existing industries via an intentional, strategic approach, and we look forward to the contributions Jess will help us to pioneer," Pharr CEO Bill Carstarphen said.

"Holland's" restaurant coming to Mount Holly
A new restaurant called "Holland's" is going in the old Holland's Drug/Pet Store location at North Main Street and East Charlotte Avenue. The entrance will be a two story atrium, and the downstairs will feature a bar and a private dining room. There will also be dining upstairs.Renovations to the 1904 building should be complete in approximately 90 days, and cost several million dollars, based on permits.
New Wing*Stop in Belmont ready to open


If the sign is to be believed, the new Wing*Stop in Belmont will open in a day or two. They are located beside Simmonetti's Italian in Main Street Crossing in Belmont.We hear their lemon-pepper wings are yum!

Bo the Bloodhound finds little boyBo the Bloodhound, a K9 with the Gastonia Police Department successfully tracked a little boy for seven miles recently. The child and his mother were involved in a domestic situation. The child was found unharmed..

Gaston County has received approx $4.5 million for water and sewer infrastructureDemocratic Congressman Jeff Jackson visited Dallas In May to announce the West Trade Street waterline replacement project. He presented Dallas Mayor Haley Beaty with a check for $959,752. The funds will be used to replace aging infrastructure from the 1940's in Dallas.In the last 12 months, both Cherryville and Bessemer City have received more that $1 million earmarked for upgrades to infrastructure, including replacing pump stations installed in the 1960's.
Preservation Gaston presents awards
Preservation Gaston is dedicated to preserving buildings, sites, and properties of historical or architectural importance in Gaston County. In an event last week, they presented awards to local people who have spearheaded or participated in local projects of note.

Lucy Penegar won the Advocacy Award, which will be named the Lucy Penegar award in future years. Lucy is a Gaston County treasure, and has had a hand in the Loray Mill Project, and too many others to count.

Robert Ragan won the Merit Award, for his seminal books on textile heritage and history. Accepting the award on his behalf were Carol, Bill, and Catherine Carstarphen

Victoria Melvin Propert and Blair Propert and Melissa and James Melvin won the Rehabilitation Award, Commercial, for the Historic Dallas Jail

David and Wendy Hostetler won the Rehabilitation Award, Residential Award, for Stowe Manor.

Robbie and Caroline Delaney won the Rehabilitation Award, Commercial Award, Mount Holly Mill. Robbie and Caroline own the Muddy River Distillery.

Alex and Jessica Churchill won the Preservation Award, Residential.

Blues Out Back is back, baby!
