What a beautiful weekend we had-hope you were able to get outside to enjoy it. I spent Saturday helping my son tear a porch off of his wood shop that he is moving- I am not used to hard work! Saturday afternoon we went to the opening of South Point Social. We saw several friends there and had a lot of fun!

South Point Social opens with a bang!

South Point Social is off to a roaring start. They are a new bar and social club at 2311 South Point Road in Belmont. There were several hundred people there when we were there, and the place was hopping! Congrats To Keanu Trujillo and partners!

Next Monday, May 26th is Memorial Day. Memorial Day is a day when we commemorate U.S. soldiers who have died in the line of duty. (Not living veterans- that's Vetrerans Day).Banks, post offices, and most city and state offices will be closed.

Bananna Bar opens in Belmont

The Banana Bar has opened at 117 South Main Street in Belmont. They offer  perfectly frozen bananas, dipped in rich chocolates and covered with your favorite toppings and drizzles.Info

Preservation Gaston holds annual award celebrationPreservation Gaston held their 2nd annual awards celebration at the Muddy River Distillery in Mount Holly last week. Robbie and Caroline Delaney, owners of Muddy River, are former Preservation Gaston award winners.

John and Jodie Kines won a historic preservation award for the A. C. Linberger house in Belmont. Pat Rudisill presented the award.

John and Jennifer Church won an Adapative Reuse Award for the Chronicle Mill project in Belmont.The Chronicle Mil was built in 1901, and was the first textile mill in Belmont. It has been converted into 240 one and two bedroom apartments, and 9000 square feet of retail space.

Robert Carpenter (center) received the Merit Award from Preservation Gaston.  Mr. Carpenter has written several books on Gaston County history, and is active in the  Gaston and Lincoln genealogical societies.Also pictured are Pat Rudisill (L) and Lucy Penegar (R).

A representative of the Winn Companies was on hand to accept an award for Adaptive Reuse for Osage Mill in Bessemer  City. The Winn Companies spent $36 million to convert the mill, built in 1896,  into 139 affordable apartments. We hear it looks fantastic!

Chubby's BBQ coming to Bessemer CitySteven Daniels is taking his food bbq truck experience and turning it into a brick and mortar location. He is opening Chubby's BBQ at 101 Pennsylvania Avenue in Bessemer City.Daniels says he will serve puled pork brisket, ribs, and chicken, and a rotating weekly special. FB peeps are excited to see him open! He expects to be open in the fall.
