Gaston Controlled Substances Coalition to Conduct The Community Cost of Opioids at The Pointe Church, Belmont NC on May 4 from 9:00-11:00AM The Community Cost of Opioids will provide a timely update on the opioid epidemic in Gaston County by focusing on front lines experiences, prevention and treatment resources, and what the future holds. It features presentations by: Chief Mark Lamphiear, Gaston Emergency Medical Services Chief Stephen Zill, Gaston County Police Department Sheriff Chad Hawkins Todd Davis, MD, CaroMont Health Captain Jeff Phelps, Gaston County Police Department Wendy Whisnant, Gaston County Adult Recovery Court Erin Myer, Kintegra Health Michelle Mathis, Olive Branch Ministry Delton Russell, Partners Health Management The program is free and open to all county residents and will be held at The Pointe Church, 6700 Wilkinson Boulevard, Belmont, NC 28012 from 9:00 to 11:00 AM on May 24, 2023. Yep, that's a Kia SUV being pulled out of the Catawba River

About 11PM Sunday a woman accidentally backed her car into the Catawba River in Belmont. She thought the car was in Drive. The owner was okay, and her car was pulled out with the help of divers and a tow truck.

Our State magazine is right...the Shake Shop doesn't look like much, but the business is 80 years old. The hamburgers however, look absolutely yummy.. Unfortunately they don't actually serve shakes anymore, but they do still serve Lottaburgers, and Lottafish too.Check it out...

Miles Braswell leaving city manger positionMount Holly City Manager Miles Braswell has resigned his position. He has accepted the City Manager role in Belmont. He was with the City of Mount Holly since 2014.Braswell said in a statement:
“It has been an honor to be Mount Holly’s City Manager, and I have been fortunate to work with such a great City staff as well as to serve the citizens, the Mayor, and City Council,” said Miles Braswell. “I am grateful for my time here and what we have been able to accomplish together."
