The Charlotte FC (Football Club) lost it's first game 1-0 Saturday night, but they did set a major league soccer game attendance record of 74,000.Also Saturday night, Duke lost to rival UNC 94-8. It was Mike Krzyzewski's last game as Duke's legendary coach.
Gastonia, Belmont gaining new residential developments
Suntrust Real Estate and Land, pending approvals from the City of Gastonia, plans to build as many as 877 residential units on a nearly 326 acres site south of the city.Walton Global Holdings recently acquired a 217 tract south of Gastonia. The developer says a "significant" single family residential project is planned.
Habitat for Humanity moving ahead with Dixon VillageHabitat for Humanity broke ground earlier this year on a project called Dixon Village. The plan calls for 28 homes on a 7.5 acre site near Hickory Grove Road. About 1/3 of the homes will be for habitat homeowners, and the rest will be entry level homes.
Local private schools make top 25 list.Three local private schools are among the largest in the Charlotte Metro area in terms of student enrollment, according to the Charlotte business Journal.Gaston Christian placed 10th on the list with an enrollment of 956. They offer PK through 12th grade, and a teacher to student ratio of 1 to 20. Annual tuition ranges from $3,324 to $9,360.Gaston Day is 20th on the list, with an enrollment of 500. They offer PK through 12th grade, and have a teacher to student ratio of 1 to 8. Annual tuition ranges from $6,805 to $17,725.Cramerton Christian Academy is 23rd on the list, with an enrollment of 325. They offer K through 12th grade, and have a teacher to student ratio of 1 to 20. Annual tuition is $5,623 to $6,615.

Texas Roadhouse temporarily closed due to fireFirefighters responded to multiple call of a fire Sunday afternoon at the Texas Roadhouse. There was no fire in the restaurant portion; evidently the fire was in the kitchen hood system.It took firefighters about 20 minutes to get the fire under control. They estimate the damage at $75-$100 thousand. Texas Roadhouse is expected to be closed at least several days.

McDonalds- don't fix our ice cream machinesIt's no secret that McDoanlds ice cream machines are broken...well, a lot. Actually there is even a website that tracks all of the broken machines across the U.S., called McBroken.It turns out that a company called Kytch has engineered a device that lets McDoanlds owners hack the machines secret menu and offers a far more friendly user interface, and avoid costly service calls from Taylor, the machines manufacturer.McDonalds, which evidently gets kickbacks from Taylor, found out and claimed that the Kytch device could cause "serious human injury". Really.So now Kytch is suing McDonalds for $900 million. A Kytch company spokesman said:
"Taylor has intentionally created 'equipment reliability issues' for years, and its repair and maintenance business has earned hundreds of millions of dollars in fees for repairs that Taylor itself caused," the complaint reads.We'll see how this plays out. Meanwhile, the Taylor made McDonald's ice cream machines near you may or may not be working,
