Meet Estrella and Aragon—two bright, high school students—who just celebrated the launch of their food truck venture in Gastonia!

This grand opening is extra special because they're using their business to raise funds for college tuition. Estrella is a senior and Aragon is a junior, and their enthusiasm is truly inspiring.

Their food truck is open on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 6:00 pm. They are located at 2106 West Franklin Blvd in Gastonia... across the street from "Dollar Tree" discount store.

New K9 Dunkin gets his badge

Sheriff Chad Hawkins pins a badge to the collar of the Gaston County Sheriff Department's newest four-legged crime fighter, K9 Dunkin, a Red Labrador Retriever. Born on November 18, 2023, Dunkin was part of a litter donated to Highland K9, a premier K9 training facility based in Harmony, NC that specializes in training both service and police K9s.

Dunkin is a narcotic detection K9, trained to identify illegal substances by scent. Beyond narcotics detection, he and his handler have also undergone advanced training in trailing techniques, including night time searches and tactical trailing for high risk situations.

Did you know drowning is one of the easiest deaths to prevent?

At the Gaston County Family YMCA, we believe every child should have the skills to stay safe around water. That’s why we offer free Safety Around Water classes each year—because knowing how to swim can be the difference between life and tragedy.

Your donation makes this possible. It provides children and families in our community with the lifesaving skills they need. Every dollar you give helps another child learn how to be safe and confident in the water.

Thank you for helping us save lives, one lesson at a time!
