Check them out here!My wife and I were lucky enough to spend last week in Mexico visiting a friend. We spent four days in Puerto Vallarta and four days in Sayulita. Mexico is a country of contrasts: beautiful flowers, scenery, and architecture, but also trash and abject poverty. The people and the food were absolutely wonderful.

What's going on at the old Bi-Lo in Belmont?There is activity at the old Bi-Lo in Belmont. The buzz is that Goodwill is going in there. A lot of folks were hoping it would be a Fresh Market or Trader Joe's.

Franklin Square lll is seeking a buyer

CMBS loan data  states that the owner of Franklin Square III is actively seeking a buyer. The shopping center includes Kohl's, Books A Million, Painted Tree, Old Navy,  and Petsmart. The shopping center is 91% occupied.The present owner has a $28.9 million loan balance that will come due in November.

Chronicle Mill in Belmont celebrates long awaited opening

It took ten years, but John and Jennifer Church got it done-congratulations to them!  Chronicle Mill in Belmont celebrated it's grand opening last week. The Church's purchased the Mill in 2003, and there have been many twists, turns, and obstacles along the way.The Mill now boasts 238 apartments, and they are 98.7% leased. They also have 9000 square feet of commercial space and a 7 acre co-working site in downtown Belmont.

Hunter Douglas to close Bessemer City Plant by JuneThe Hunter Douglas Window Designs plant in Bessemer City is expected to close by June 30, according to the company. More than 100 workers are expected to lose their jobs.The Company says that all affected employees have been offered a medical and financial benefits package, as well as the opportunity to apply for jobs at other Hunter Douglas locations.

Gaston County in running for $100 million industrial investmentTwo weeks ago the Gastonia City Council approved a resolution for an economic agreement for a project code named Project Huskey.Gastonia City documents show that the company is considering Gateway85, which is a Northpoint Development project between Lowell and Gastonia.They company is also looking at other sites in the county, as well as sites in other states.

Lawsuits filed on behalf of Gaston County teachers over pay issues

The North Carolina Association of Educators filed a lawsuit on behalf of two Gaston County teachers, alleging that the school system failed to timely pay earned compensation.The following legal claims were made in the lawsuit:

  • Count 1: Negligence in payroll system implementation, administration, and rectification of known failures.

  • Count 2: Taking of property without just compensation in violation of Article 1, Section 19 of the North Carolina Constitution.

  • Count 3: Infringement of the inalienable right to earn a living and enjoy the fruits of their own labor in violation of Article 1, Sections 1 and 19 of the North Carolina Constitution.

According to the Gaston County Association of Educators, the paycheck issues have been going on for 14 months.

Mount Holly's Gateway Center to get 2nd medical buildingRegional Developers LLC of Pineville, is developing an second medical office building in the Gateway Center near CaroMont Health's new hospital off of Exit 27 on I-85.Their first building will be occupied by Carolina Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Center. The second building will be 62,000 square feet as well, and there is room on the property for a third building.

Good news for book loversNPR reports that Barnes & Noble plans to open 30 new stores this year. And even better news, 334 indie bookstores opened last year, according to the Independent Bookseller.Interestingly, of the 25 best selling books of 2022, just 10 were written by male authors. Some reports indicate that women are buying 80% of the novels purchased in today's market.
