Gastonia to pursue biker-friendly infrastructureThe Gastonia City Council approved a motion last week to adopt plans for a healthier, safer, and more connected cycling community. The plan would encourage people to get out and ride, and adopting bicycle friendly street policies. "There's a whole host of recommendations related to the policy side of building the bike culture and the plan digs into those as well," one council member said.The plan would also support future bicycle infrastructure and possible connection to greenways.
Brandon Bellamy, owner of the Honey Hunters interviewed
Brando Bellamy, owner of Gastonia's Honey Hunters baseball team, was interviewed recently by the Charlotte Business Journal.This is Bellamy's third season as owner of the Honey Hunters. When he bought the team the ballpark wasn't finished, and there were no new developments in the FUSE district.The team is 21-9 so far this season, and there are several new and planned developments near the FUSE site. Those include revitalization of the old Trenton Mills building, two projects at the old Coca Cola site, and plans for the former YMCA site.Gaston County cool!
Belmont's Piedmont Lithium ranks 29th on top earnings listPiedmont Lithium, based in Belmont, ranked 29th in the Charlotte Business Journal's list of top earning Charlotte metro companies. Piedmont reported net income of $12.98 million in 2022, with zero net revenue.They also ranked 41st on a list of the largest Charlotte area based public companies, with 40 employees, and median annual employee compensation of $206,411, and a CEO to employee pay ration of 18.1, which comes out to $3,739,039.Piedmont is located at 42 East Catawba street in Belmont, and they also have an exploration office in Cherryville.

Floyd & Blackie's opened the new location of their coffee shop, ice cream and bakery in Cramerton on May 28.. Not sure when the restaurant will open.
Leydi Cardona of Belmont has been missing since April 22nd. Cardona is described as a Hispanic girl with brown hair and brown eyes. Gamble much?It looks like the General Assembly is set to approve sports gambling for North Carolina. The state's Lottery Commission would approve 12 licenses, some for mobile betting like FanDuel or DraftKings. Others would be for in person gambling at venues such as Bank of America stadium, Charlotte Motor speedway, and the Quail Hollow club.The bill would allow for betting on the Olympics, horse racing, professional and college sports. Betting on youth sports will not be allowed. At the Lottery Commission's discretion, betting could begin sometime between January 8, 2024 and mid-June 2024.

Fayetteville's Fort Bragg renamed
Fort Bragg officially became Fort Liberty on Friday. The change came because in 1918 Fort Bragg was named for slave owning Confederate General Braxton Bragg.
