County Breaks Ground on 330 Acre Apple Corporate CenterTo date two companies have committed to taking space in the new center, adding 29 new jobs paying between $40k and $75k. So far site plans show 10 buildings total, but the site allows for much more than that. Apple Creek neighbors the 350 acre Gastonia Techology Park near Dallas.

Gaston County commissioners to create a "Council of Understanding" to look into the issue of whether or not to move the Confederate monument from in front of the courthouse. It will be a committee of 12, with each commissioner choosing one person, and commissioners Tom Keigher and Tracy Philbeck choosing the remaining 6. Cam Newton signed a one year deal with the New England Patriots. Newton was released by the Panthers in March, and must still pass a physical with the Patriots. Sad news- apparently Happy Dog Cafe and Boutique in Belmont has filed for bankruptcy, and evidently their Facebook page is down. Don't know what happened, but I always enjoyed going in there.

Gastonia Grizzlies pull the plug on seasonBaseball is over for the summer, at least for the Griz. According to league officials the state mandated crowd limitations make it impossible to continue with the season.
"With the extension of Phase 2 to mid-July, it is no longer feasible for the Grizzlies to play this summer,” said league officials in a prepared statement.
