Something is up on the Miles Restaurant corner in GastoniaRight at press time, we saw a post of Facebook about something happening with the old Mile's Restaurant building in downtown Gastonia, but then the post disappeared. It would be wonderful to see that space active and alive again. We'll find out more.
Sake Belmont not ready for prime timeSake Belmont had hoped to open by June 1, but have yet to open. They hope to be open soon, but the actual date is yet to be determined. They are located in the old Estia's Kouzena location in Belmont, at 609 North Main Street in Belmont.
New Floor & Decor under constructionThe new Floor & Decor is under construction next door to the old Kate's Skating Rink location, at 4114 East Franklin Boulevard in Gastonia.

Gaston County Schools is making sure no child goes hungry this summer! Through the Summer Feeding Program, children and teens (age 18 and under) can enjoy free, healthy meals — no matter where they live or go to school.

Mount Holly native David Childers to be inducted into the NC Music Hall of FameThe North Carolina Music Hall of Fame will induct Luke Combs, Clyde Mattocks, David Childers, "Chatty Hatty", Robert Deaton, and Dexter Romweber on Thursday, October 16, 2025. The public is invited to attend the event as the inductees are honored. DAVID CHILDERS (Mount Holly, NC) – Revered North Carolina singer-songwriter, poet, and painter known for his gritty voice and vivid storytelling. Blending folk, rockabilly, and country, he’s released over a dozen albums including Run Skeleton Run, Melancholy Angel, Serpents of Reformation, Interstate Lullaby, and many more. A former lawyer turned full-time artist, Childers draws from literature, spirituality, and everyday life to craft songs rich in soul and substance. He has toured the U.S. and Europe, collaborated with members of The Avett Brothers, and performed on MerleFest’s main stage.
