What? Bojangles getting "out of the chicken business"?Jose Amario, Bojangles CEO, said recently: “This is going to sound weird or controversial, but I’d like to get out of the chicken business. I want to get into the experience business.” Evidently what he really means is that he wants to get out of the bone-in chicken business, and focus on more popular items that are not as labor intensive to prepare..i.e. more profitable. So what does that mean? First off, legacy (existing) stores will still sell bone-in chicken.Second, Bojangles new concept stores will not serve bone-in chicken, but will offer the all-new, hand-breaded Bo’s Chicken Biscuit for breakfast and Bo’s Chicken Sandwich and Bo’s Chicken Tenders for lunch and dinner, with no bone-in chicken. The menu change is for new market growth only. The altered menu is focused on chicken tenders, sandwiches, BoBerry biscuits and milkshakes — a model expected to be the norm as the brand expands nationally.

New "Patriotic" Community to be built in GastoniaA new community named 1776 Gastonia will be built in Gastonia by NewStyle Communities. The 55 + community "blends the elements of American patriotism, the American Dream of home ownership, and the founding ideals of America: Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness," according to the company. The community will have an HOA that will provide standards: homeowners will pledge allegiance to the flag, accept that the Constitution is the U.S.'s founding legal document, "cherish" the nation's motto, recognize "the founding ideals of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness," and pledge to preserve "the founding ideals of 1776 at Gastonia and to honor our great nation, The United States of America."Homeowners will also fly American flags provided by the builder during the construction process."It's properly illuminated and it's designed to be a fixture of the home that is permanent. At times when the flags need to be replaced because of wear and tear, the homeowners association will take care of that," said Brock Fankhauser, Founder and CEO.No word on whether patriotic socks will be required.

Legacy Builders offers creative path

Legacy Builders is a non-profit that seeks to empower youth from economically disadvantaged homes to creative options in a safe space. They offer training in the music business, radio broadcasting, audio engineering, music production, digital marketing and photography.Entrepreneur Nathaniel Jones set up in Eastland Mall in 2021. "I think a lot of what I grew up, as far as boys and girls clubs and the rec centers and the YMCAs and all of the activities we had after school, I don't really see that as much," Jones said. "So the space that I was in personally is entertainment. You look at it right now, there are a lot of social media influencers. You have your Youtubers. I have all this talent but where do they really go to learn the science behind it right? Where do they go to learn how to practice it and exercise that space? So it just seemed like a no-brainer for us to put that in Gastonia."Find out more...

Tennis anyone?

One of the best parts about living in Gaston County is the proximity to Charlotte, and all of it's art, music, restaurants and sports...without having to actually live there.Mecklenburg County's economic development committee approved a proposal last Wednesday for County government to provide as much as $30 million dollars to build a tennis complex that would hopefully become the new home of the Western & Southern Open professional tennis tournament.Where would this new tennis center be built? In the River District, which is just across the river from Belmont and just west of the Charlotte Douglas International Airport. The entire tennis project is expected to cost $400 million, using North Carolina funds, Charlotte City Government funds, and Meklenburg Count funds. The tournament is currently held just outside of Cincinnati Ohio, where local leaders are trying to retian the tournament, so it is not at all certain that the tournament will move. Beemok Capital out of Charleston SC, owns the tournament.
