Property taxes drop in Gaston County and GastoniaGood news for Gaston County!
Back in May Gaston County commissioners voted to drop the tax rate by 20 cents, to 61 cents of appraised value. That is the largest property tax cut in Gaston county history. The new Gaston County budget takes effect July 1.Now the city of Gastonia is following suit and lowering property taxes from 52 to 47 cents of appraised value.
Do you remember the McAdenville Zoo?It's gone now, but the McAdenville Zoo lives on in local folk's memories. The Zoo was located on the left just below the community center if you are coming from I-85. Folks say it was beautiful with ponds, birds, flowers, and a monkey that wasn't too happy to be there! Lot's of folks remember either being chased by, or being bitten by a peacock!

Gaston Business Association places 2nd on Chamber ListThe Gaston Business Association (aka Gaston Chamber) ranked 2nd as far as revenue in a survey done by the Charlotte business Journal. The Association reported $932,749 in fiscal year 2020. The Gaston Chamber was founded in 1913, and the Cheif Operating Officer is Steve D'Avria.The MontCross Chamber, which primarily serves Eastern Gaston County, was formed in 1960. Marc Jordan is the President.The Cherryville Chamber of Commerce was founded in 1969. Mary Beth Tackett is the Director.The Bessemer City Chamber is located at 201 W. Washington Ave. in Bessrmer City. Tony Glenn is the President.
County considering grant for $26 million IDI Logistics projectEarlier this year, IDI Logistics bought a 25 acre site just off of Hwy 321 for an industrial project. They are planning on building a 302,022 square foot building with 36 foot clear heights, 55 lock doors, 233 auto parking spaces, and 56 trailer parking spaces.Gaston County Commissioner were to consider a level-two incentive grant, and on whether to authorize the county to enter into an economic development agreement with IDI Logistics for the project.

Girls Scouts make a move
The Girls Scouts have moved from just across form the Gastonia City Hall to a strip shopping center on South New Hope Road. They had decided that their previous location was too large.Girl Scout local CEO Janet Willcox said" The team needs a landing pad".. They hope the new location will give them more visibility and create new partnerships with the community.The new location is at 3826 South New Hope Road, Unit 4. That same strip includes Budget Blinds, Hanks Real Estate, Sugarlicious, and Grille Works, among others.
