Muddy River Distillery to open June 22ndMuddy River Distillery's new historic mill home in Mount Holly is having their grand opening June 22nd.   After two years of refurbishing a late 19th-century building, Caroline and Robbie Delaney are excited to show off their new facility. They are located at 250 North Main Street in Mount Holly.The Mount Holly Cotton Mill was built in 1875 by A.P & D.E. Rhyne andAmbrose Costner—the first mill built after the war. The mill would remain in use in one form or another until it's sale to the Delaney’s. Today,the historic building is the oldest mill still standing in the county, and it will experience a new lease to life as a distillery, cocktail bar, and event space

Gastonia's new vans taking the place of busesWe told you last week that Gastonia is replacing an aging fleet of buses with vans. The new vans will provide curb to curb service and work like Uber or Lyft. 

One way fares are $2 for most people, and fares for elderly and disabled passengers  will be  $1.  The change goes into effect July 1.

All Star Hot Dog Shack rises from the ashes

The All-Star Hot Dog Shack in Stanley is returning in the form of a food truck. Their former location in the old train depot in Stanley burned, and the building has been razed.They are currently going through the permitting process with the health department, and hope to be open in two weeks. Their food truck will be located beside the Florist at 111 South Main Street in Stanley.

The Gastonia Zombees?So far the Gastonia Baseball Team has come up with the Galactic Dinos, the Gastronauts, the Gastonia Ghost Peppers, and now the Gastonia Zombees.

Gastonia was officially the 74th Bee City USA affiliate in the nation

El Gordo, a new Venezuelan restaurant has opened at 1003 Union Road, the former location of La Casa de Juli. They are open from Wednesday to Saturday, 6:30-!0:30 PM.

For the second straight season, Gaston College has an All-American baseball player as announced by the National Junior College Athletic Association. Sophomore catcher Seth Christmas was named to the NJCAA Division I second team on Monday. A 2022 Hopewell High graduate from Charlotte, Christmas led the Rhinos is batting average (.381) and RBIs (76) and was second in home runs (12). He had previously been named All-Region 10 and also has been chosen honorable mention All-American by the National Scouting Bureau.

This spring, Christmas helped Gaston College to a 51-8 overall record and the school's first No. 1 ranking in any sport in history. A member of the 50-13 National Junior College World Series team in 2023, Christmas finished his Rhinos' career second in career RBIs (93), third in career hits (99) and fourth in career home runs (13).

A Liberty University commitment in April, Christmas becomes the fourth All-American in school history.
